I don't think the idea of splitting the classes up would work - no matter what one of those events will be significantly less prestigious. Most fans/viewers will not watch back to back 12 hour-ish races. If you were to split the races up I think it would make more sense to split it between the pro and pro am classes.
Sebring 12 Hours LMH/LMDH (IMSA and WEC) LMP2 Pro (WEC) GRD Pro (IMSA) Other Sebring 12 Hours LMP2 (IMSA and WEC) LMP3 (IMSA) GTE AM (WEC) GTD (IMSA) I think this would keep the flavor of the racing much better than running a prototype race and a gt race separately. That said it would be very unfair to the am/pro am teams and drivers. The current situation is better although if WEC were to move their race to somewhere else close by the prior week (Daytona? Road Atlanta? Charlotte?) would be better, or even have their race the week before at Sebring. That would allow any teams that really want to participate in the 12 hours to do so. |
