The 2001 Brazilian GP is running the risk of being cancelled as a result of a new tobacco law outlawing tobacco advertising.
The law is expected to be passed through congress in the coming weeks. In an interview with a Brazilian newspaper, the former president of the Brazilian Motorsport Council, Murillo Salles said: 'The future of the Brazilian GP is in the hands of the members of parliament. This is not a big problem for the federation. There are a lot of countries waiting to succeed Brazil. A decision like that would be very important at the next FIA meeting. The senate is supporting a move in that direction, but in the House there is some reluctance.' |
