Announcing the 2003 10 Tenths F1 Results Prediction Competition!

Here it is, the 2003 10 Tenths F1 Results Prediction Competition!

After the 2002 season was finished, we asked you, the members, for input and whether you had any suggestions for alterations to our Prediction Competition format. This was because last year was my first year as host for this competition, and I wanted to know whether this was the type of competition that the members wanted, or whether some other format was preferable. A big thank you to everyone who has contributed. What we found was that several members wanted us to make as few changes as possible to the "traditional" competition, while there were others who wanted substantial changes. That has made us reach the following conclusions:

1. Our "traditional" Prediction Competition will remain largely unchanged, with the following exceptions: You'll now predict the polesitter plus the top 8 finishers in each race. This to adapt to the changes in the point scoring system in Formula One. Furthermore, there are changes to the tiebreak rules, which are detailed below.

This competition will now be called the "10 Tenths F1 Results Prediction Competition".

2. We will have another competition, which will go under the name of the "10 Tenths F1 Fans Prediction Competition". This will consist of several questions related to the F1 season and to each race. I will leave the explanation of the format and the rules of that competition to those who have kindly agreed to run it! Details will be posted later.

So to the rules for the F1 Results Predictions Competition:

As last year, this competition will be run by me, in cooperation with Bononi, who has developed the software. Each Friday, one week before the race, the new results prediction topic will be posted. The deadline for posting predictions will for each race weekend - due to the new qualifying format in Formula One - be set for Friday, at the start of first free practice.

The competition is to choose the top eight finishers in Sunday's Grand Prix, plus the winner of the Pole Postion in Saturday's Qualifying.

2 Points will be awarded for for each driver in the correctly predicted place and 1 point shall be awarded for a chosen driver in the top eight in a position other than that predicted.

1 Point shall be awarded for Pole.

You must all make sure to post your predictions in such a manner that I understand who you are picking for which position. If I have any doubt whatsoever, your prediction could be annulled. Above all though, this is a fun competition, so I will do my best to contact you prior to the deadline if I am in doubt over who you have selected, and you will then be given the opportunity to clarify your predictions before the deadline.

After posting your entry, you also have one opportunity to revise your choices. Please make it clear in any additional post on the thread that you are revising your choices.

The scores from the predictions of the final standings will be added to the scores from each round, giving us the winner of the F1 Results Predictions Competition. If two or more users are tied on points, the winner will be the one with the best predictions for the final standings. If that results in a tie, the winner will be the one with the highest number of points in one single round. If that still results in a tie, the winner will be the one with the second highest number of points in one single round, etc. If everything remains equal after this, those who are tied will share the victory.

Anyone who is a member of Ten Tenths can enter, and at any point duing the season. However, delaying your entry until Suzuka will reduce your chances of winning the Competition.

In your first entry, please post not only predicted results for the Australian GP, places 1-8, and a choice for Pole Position, but also your predictions for the top eight positions in the final standings in the WDC.

The prize for winning is Glory and the knowledge that you are smarter than the rest of us. I will work on some sort of material prize, but I cannot confirm anything at this time. If you at any point during the competition should be unable to post your predictions in the predictions thread due to technical problems, you are welcome to email your predictions to me at runakar@online.no. If you are going to be absent, and thus not be able to post your predictions during the week in which the predictions thread will be open, you can post your predictions in advance, either in the previous predictions thread (you can post predictions for all 16 races prior to the first GP of the season if you like), or you can send your predictions to me by PM or email.

So, post your predictions below - the best of luck to all participants! Roll on 2003!
