Virtual Supercars racing (e-series)
I think the Indycar iRacing example shows that properly done virtual racing with the real drivers and liveries, and with the regular commentators, can seem quite professional: https://youtu.be/HppJd3803n4
So hopefully the Supercars iRacing series will turn out alright as well. https://www.supercars.com/news/champ...-goes-virtual/ https://www.supercars.com/news/champ...ackle-eseries/ |

Given the situation the world finds itself in, this wasn't too bad. Would be way more fun if we could see the drivers on their sims. A competition caution wouldn't have hurt either.

SO who watched?
Was funny, interesting and would love to try it. I will keep an eye on it, but wont fret if I miss one/some/alot! Some drivers looked more experienced (younger generation) where as the older guys with less E-series knowledge looked disinterested. Im guessing this is a mandatory series? (great for Teams and any sort of TV Exposure) Alot of guys had interesting sponsorship, advertising props set up for TV crosses. Pit reporting and driving standards adviser, serious stuff !!! Rick Kelly's Fluffy Steering Wheel cover looked the goods |

When can I watch?
From what I can tell from the articles, they’re all running static setups rather than full motion simulator rigs, which is a shame. |

Hard to understand the value in it. And yes I watched.
Some of the simulator jockeys seemed more intent on making the biggest and most spectacular accidents rather than demonstrating the cut & thrust of racing. Although the commentators seemed to be on a mission to hype it up. Hard. COVID19 has a LOT to answer for! |

Watched it,but its all a bit silly when a car has a monster crash, that would have destroyed it in real life, then keeps on driving...
Also when the cars pit and they drive through each other. Its was fairly realistic though because I also fell asleep while watching it just like I do with the real thing... |

I tried to like it. Really tried.
But when Frosty got annihilated off the start in Monza and ended up 2nd behind the lap one safety car I gave it away. |

In NASCAR Racing 2003 none of what you describe is possible without resorting to playing basically an arcade mode. |

I found it far more enjoyable than I was expecting, to be honest. The production was good and although some bits seemed like nonsense, it wasn't bad for a first crack.

70,000 people watched on fox sports, plus all those who streamed the racing. A solid start.

How so? It was no different to any other sim racing, and I thought it was good that nobody was taking it too seriously. Video games can be fun to watch IMO! The webcams were a good touch that Indycar didn't have. Last edited by V8 Fireworks; 9 Apr 2020 at 20:27. |

A lot of sponsor logos on a lot of TV screens.
That’s the point. There’s a lot of sponsors involved who aren’t even trading right now. So keeping their names being mentioned for when we can use them again...I’d say that’s pretty important. |

As exciting as they are trying to make, I dont think I will be going out of my way to record it or watch it. Might be fun in a simulator and it looks great online but the seriousness isnt there. Maybe a cash incentive might change that for the drivers.
IM crossing my fingers for any Supercars, Moto GP or F1 before the end of the year |

From what I saw, it looked better than the MotoGP equivalent, which was just an embarrassment. I will wait for the eventual return of racing rather than give that effort any oxygen at all. Again, like the two examples of fiction outlined above, to see Heimgartner run very wide onto the grass exiting T12 at the end of the first lap and lose only one place would never happen, so you are instantly requested to suspend your disbelief, the polar opposite of the lurking realities of racing.

I watched again, was interested to see the F1 involvement.
I have to say I love the graphics and are impressed by the said characteristics of the cars. However I did fast forward every race to the last lap to see the winner |

Better effort last night obviously they've sorted some bugs.
The first race was good Then I lost the plot with the reverse grid race, half the cars were destroyed in the first lap in horrific crashes....only to carry on... Stick to the short sprint races, otherwise I find the remote wandering off to watch other channels. |

Very positive article on the series and the benefits it offers the category in an article on Mumbrella here.
Great breakdown of the ratings the Eseries is generating compiled by the team at The Race Torque. |

It's not my cup of tea in any way - no allowance for grip variation, no real disadvantage from going off track etc, no feeling of seeing the cars on the edge of the envelope.
For those who aren't into that stuff quite so much, it seems to work and I'm glad for the category, teams, drivers and sponsors that it IS getting eyes on it and helping to keep everything "alive". Roll on the real deal though! |
