What the hell did Carlin cars on the last lap? Aleshin tried to pass Vettel, who blocked him, and the two clinched and did a complete spin like they were syncronized dancers. Then they continued, but shortly aftter the Russian driver had something damaged and was forced to abandon.

This report includes Vettel's version of the incident. You let other people past if they're faster than you, but not, apparently, your team-mate.

Ok, here's the rankings as I see them then (although there is a point for fastest lap which I couldn't find)
Code:
Name Race 1 Race 2 Total Parente 12 8 20 Duran 2 15 17 Pavlovic 5 12 17 Aleshin 15(+1) 0 16 Vettel 6 10 16 Albuquerque 8 5 13 Bonanomi 10 0 12 Miguez 4 6 10 van der Garde 0 4 4 Molina 3 0 3 Kimball 0 2 2 Mann 1 0 1 Hanley 0 1 1 |

They've changed the scoring system slightly for the second race for some unknown reason (although this is probs a mistake no doubt), according to the standings on the renault site.
They are; 12, 10, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 Its also +2 for fastest lap in each race, so my calculations have.... 1. Parente - 20 2. Aleshin - 19 3. Vettel - 16 4. Pavlovic - 15 5. Duran - 14 6. Bonanomi - 14 7. Albuquerque - 13 8. Miguez - 10 9. Jousse - 6 10. van der Garde - 4 11. Molina - 3 12. Kimball - 3 13. Hanley - 2 14. Baguette - 1 15. Mann - 1 16. Fauzy - 1 |

I guess changing the scoring for the second race does make sense, in light of the new reverse-grid system.

Wow, that seems really harsh. Lewis says he hasn't performed to expectations since he signed him, which I don't think is particularly true and even so one race doesn't exactly give him a chance to do much.
Bet they wish they'd signed Bonanomi instead judging by his performance at Monza.... |

Sporting Regulation Changes
A number of new rules have been introduced for 2007 in order to improve the racing and to create more excitement: * Firstly, the length of the first race at each meeting has been extended, meaning that both races will now last for approximately 45 minutes (except Monaco, where there is only one race). * The grid for Race one will still be decided by a 20-minute Qualifying session, but the grid for Race two will now be determined by the finishing order of the first race, with the top 10 positions reversed. * Points will also now be awarded to the top 3 drivers in each qualifying group for Race one. The 30 drivers are split into two groups of 15 for the 20-minute session, with the fastest driver in each group receiving 3 points, the second fastest 2 with 1 point awarded to the third fastest. source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2007_Wo...Renault_season |

In fairness that was on a press release months ago when they decided to change the regs for this year - they decided before the end of last season.
Although you seem to now be able to get 4 points instead of 3 if you top the quali groups and there is no mention of a different points system for the second race either |

I'm sure the 15 people in that stand watching it enjoyed it at least... Then again it was a Saturday and Le Mans quali probably doesn't draw huge crowds really.

But having won it, what would doing another season do for him?
If anything he could only lose out by coming back. No, I can't see it happening unless it's the odd race to help with development now they've lost the top engineer? Surprised Van Lagen's gone after one meeting, maybe there was a row or something. But didn't he disappoint in 2005 when he was in the series first time round? If Jonathan Lewis sacked a quality driver like Van Lagen cos he has been dissapointing in one round, then why did he sign someone like Nunez to be in his ch'ship winning team who is obviously only going to get a few points at best?
