Hmmm homologation of a Cayman for racing would probably be dependant upon Porsche giving assistance - which they are unlikely to do
Engineering wise i think it is possible (most things are) but difficult without Porsche assistance!!! |

As said above, the Alzen brothers field a Cayman in the VLN (Nordschleife endurance racing and 24h event). As far as I know, their latest plan is to fit in the Carrera GT V10 in there.
Does anybody know whether manufacturer's agreement is required for the FIA GT? Didn't Ford say the Ford GT will never be raced, yet we have the Matech GT's racing in GT3? (This aside, there's of course the brilliant Ford GT in SuperGT GT300.) |

As i understand it the cars need to be homologated....does not have to be the manufacturer that does this AFAIK

Not to mention that, as I understand it, homologation for GT3 is a different kettle of fish to that for GT1/2. Probably explains some of the confusion here.

So, what are we saying?
Porsche will not go LMP1, so as not to step on Audi's toes - or because they think diesels suck (like the rest of us...) Porsche won't help Alzen develop a 997 Cayman (let alone a V10 one) in case it looks fast but silly So, I'm guessing that the W12 Maybach LM GT-R Diesel is right out then??? Damn, that would have bored Aston and Chevy to death |

I think the Alman looks quite alright, stalking the 997 GT3.

Porsche will be back in LMP1 and winning Le Mans soon enough, just you wait and see.
Audi might have left by then, but it would be a Porsche Petrol vs a Audi Diesel and they would not be stepping on each other toes because it is a different fuel supply and marketing for different things. The 997 RSR anyway, there will be some updates comming for it soon, as we still can't match the pace of the Feza's yet really, so Porsche are working hard as usual to put that right. |

Why does this 997 GT3 RSR have a rear diffuser? I thought the 911 couldn't have one due to the need to cool the engine or something. http://www.endurance-info.com/2007_D...bur/07_568.jpg |

well does anyone have underside pics of the new car?
is it true that the 911 can't use a full rear diffuser because of the rear engine? |

Also- there are no restrictors.
I think that this explains the 520hp spec 997 |

So it seems that the 997 still has something to give.
Although this year's qualifying sessions were not really indicative of the ultimate pace of the cars, the 997's did manage to beat the Ferrari's (both on the 1st and 2nd day) They went on to post the two fastest race times and registered the highest top speeds on the Mulsanne straight. Le Mans is obviously a track which suits the 997. |

I also think the Ferrari 430 is a 12 hour car right now.

And it is fairer to say that, if it is indeed fragile, the 430 is at least an 18 hour car.
