I hear that the BBC is currently suing Ben for breach of contract, so this one has a way to go yet.

Unless something else has happened, that was just the application for an injunction, which is never a "final" verdict, just something to hold the fort pending the ultimate result. The Beeb will be seeking damages from publishing the book - they won't get all profits, there's only 1 case where that was allowed, and that was where the publication would have benefitted a wanted criminal (George Blake).

Mostly I think on the part of the BBC this is a massive pole vault over a mouse turd. Perry McCarthy previously published what seemed to be a successful book which outed him as a Stig and they just didn't ask him back, of which I doubt he cared. In addition there are other Stigs, always have been and always will be. I think it's a joke how seriously the BBC takes all this as though us stupid pheasants didn't all along know it was just some racing driver. It's as though Santa Claus has been unmasked. The more apoplectic the BBC acts the worse it makes them look. I just don't think people care as much as the beeb thinks they do. Besides Hammond publishes a "diary" every year now of his experiences. Clarkson has volumes of stuff he bleats about this and that. May has 16 books out. And actually as a side note James May has been turning out some interesting stuff lately. Toy Stories was great and Man Lab should be interesting. |

I think Perry was outed before the book and had already left. Ben was on Alan Titchmarsh's show today. Apparently it was getting hard to keep the secret and the BBC were talking about using other drivers from time to time. Odd that, since many of us have known who it was for an age and that he may be the main Stig but certainly wasn't the only one. A very one-sided interview which didn't entirely present all of the apparent facts.

I agree, I'm sure Perry was outed before the book came out. The book was reprinted and updated with a section on The Stig and what he'd done in the time since the original was released. Can't remember how he was unmasked though.

Pretty sure they had at least four "Stigs" for the Britcar 24 Hour Race a few years ago.

I've heard credible stories of at least 7 drivers who've done it, plus some specialists for things such as the Renaualt F1. Of course, 'credible' doesn't completely rule out 'wrong'!

Stiggy moves to Fifth Gear.
Smart move I think. Good for him. http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2010...gear-channel-5 |

Not sure if this has been linked on this thread, but just goes to show what sort of planks run the BBC..

To be honest, that puts me more on their side. He was employed to be an anonymous driver, that's the whole point of the Stig. They'd already disposed of one when he became known which should have been a clue to him. They've compared him to a dalek (it can be anyone inside them, and rumours suggest a whole host of famous people have been daleks and cybermen just for the fun of it) or a Blue Peter dog (Goldie died and was replaced without anyone noticing) which seem to be appropriate comparisons. A number of times the Stig has been other than the main driver and nobody noticed.
Sorry, sour grapes/publicity stunt to promote his book. Shut up, Ben, you don't have a leg to stand on. Just like a Dalek, in fact! |

A smart move on behalf of the Discovery / Channel 5 People I think.
5th Gear does seem to be a place that Top Gear People go when they eventually grow up (I do detest the inanity and falseness of Top Gear with a passion!) My only concern is if there's room for Ben on the programme? Needell & Plato appear to have ego's the size of aircraft hangers, so I do hope he'll be able to squeeze in somewhere. (My choice would be to try and squeeze in next to Vicki Scotchegg-Rallyjacket, I bet she's a nice squeeze...). Or is he being introduced into the programme because one of the old stagers is on their way out? |

I was wondering where Ben would fit in with Tiff and Jason already there, each of whom thinks he's the best driver on the planet.
Hey, maybe will go back to Top Gear as a Stig replacement? |

Of course the obvious choice for New Stig is Ben Collins. On the basis that nobody would suspect.

I might start watching 5th Gear again if that tiresome old queen is leaving.
And no I don't mean VBH, even though she looks more like a bloke in drag with each passing year. |

Anyone seen this yet?
Entitled: "Judge reveals reason for Top Gear's Stig ruling" http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-11467649 Certainly seems to agree with Ben's view of it. And nice too that its on the BBC website - I'm always amazed that they do things like that and make themselves look as impartial as possible - if I was the head of the BBC... Never mind, off-topic.. |
