R10 "vunerable"??? When? Where?
The no.2 dominated almost the whole race, only being brought down thanks to a glitch in the pits. The no.3 out due to some mistake, maybe. I disagree with the comparison of the 908's noise to the R10's. The R10 still quieter. The 908 has a bit of an high pitch. |

wouldn't it be some kind of alternative traction control by "un-burning" diesel ?

My point was that out of 4 Audi based entries only one finished (albeit 1st). All the years of the R8 & R10 i have never felt like i did this year, ie that that "anything" could happen to them whereas before they have given a sense of being bullet (and crash barrier) resistent. |

Those Pugs were very photogenic at night. I got some shots I was very pleased with. Keep an eye open for them on my site in due course - I promise I will update before May 08...... |

I did get a bit worried, especially after the second crash. You could say that all of the cars running were as vulnerable as the Audis were, since vulnerability was in the form of crashes. So, yes, it was a nerve-wrecking Le Mans for Audi, for sure. |

I haven't been through the posts on this thread in detail since I got back, but can someone answer me one question - was there a pre-race driver parade this year? (I'm not talking about the one in the town on Friday). I was at the TT meet until it broke up around 1.10 (I think) and I heard nothing on the PA introducing drivers. When I took up my seat in T34 they were just starting the national anthems (as I recall). So did the ACO abandon the parade this year (because of the early start time or the fear of rain, perhaps?). Or did I just miss it completely - somehow.......???

We were in the one of the tribunes opposite the pits from about 11 and there was no drivers parade. A pity as I always thought that was a nice part of the build up to the start. I've no idea why it was abandoned this year - somebody's idea of progress perhaps?

I was certainly disappointed. It seemed to unnecessarily shorten the pre-race goings-on which are so much a part of the whole thing for me. I just wondered if the drivers - having got a bit damp in Le Mans town on Friday evening - had said they weren't about to risk it again an hour or two before the race?

Weird....because I was very much the other way round - ie I thought the Audi's were quieter and the Pugs almost sounded like "proper" cars.

They were indeed both much too quiet, but the Audis were appreciably louder than last year and I thought the Pugs were louder again - IMO.

I had been really convinced by the noise limitation this year. I could stay in the Michelin grandstand without wearing ears protectors. And the singing of the engines wasn't very different.

I thought the Pug was definitely louder than the Audi which seemed to make no more than what I can only describe as a 'whooshing' sound. At least I could hear an engine, albeit a very quiet one, in the Pug. However, they were both ridiculously quiet, and a field full of such cars would destroy so much of the atmosphere, so I was thankful for the rest!
