not sure, its some form of metal, its very strong and its not that heavy either. We got it with the car, i tested it at mondello last day ( Well i made a mistake and put it to the test) hitting an grass bank with an stony underside (first corenr same place where everyone inlcuding Carnegie Launched his Car in 2002) i thought it might have damaged the sump from the big bang but it only marked it and it didnt move.
Its 16.38mm thick according to the thingamy bob measureing thing i have here. We are changing to an lightweight high strent Mix sumpgard which is 8.2mm soon Last edited by Cryos; 20 Apr 2004 at 18:34. |

must be very light or from what I can figure about rallyX it would have been long gone. At least it works though.
I put the thiknesses of my guards (8mm & 6mm) up on the technology forum but am also toying with a Carbon stone guard for Tarmac rallying, especially Single Venue cr*p |

Looked at some kevlar sump gaurds and there was some company at the NEC that said they did them (they were €400 euro for the nova).
But they said that they could'nt gaurentee that it wouldnt break in rallycross so we have been searching around |

Chris Flavell in the Historic Imp uses a Kaylan type material on the underside of the imp for forest rallying.
I havent looked into but I would worry that it is a bit flexible for a sump guard. I would guess it is great at spreading the load on a floor pan though... |

I use an Alluminium sump guard (approx 10mm thick) on my Astra for rallies, it's a one piece guard with folds to strenghten it.
