I just came back from Moroso in West Palm Beach, Florida. I was there driving a Porsche 944 in "The Longest Night 24 Hours of Moroso". My car broke down right away, we lost 4 hours replacing the gearbox, then the clutch went around 10 hours later…we were 200 laps behind, right off the bat, and ended up doing a total of 300 laps. But, it was great fun, and I will for sure be back! I had a great battle for an hour at night with what was at the time the third place Peruvian Acura (later blew a head gasket), which was great fun. That stint made up for all the trouble…
The traffic was actually quite good. I did a few restarts after a some yellows (corner workers and a crash) and most everyone were really heads up. There were few ****ers in fairly fast cars that weren't using there heads, #86 Gold Mercedes, and Red #63 924 come to mind, but you just had to use caution when passing them…It all depends on who's driving the car at the time. The 1/2 dozen Miatas were super friendly when getting past. The 4 or 5 BMW were OK, too.
There were a few comedy cars in the race, but most were driven with some talent. The Rabbit, 85 MR2, 74 Opel Manta, Spec RX7, stock Nissan Centra, BMW 2002 and AMC Arrow come to mind. I was actually sad to see the AMC Arrow crash out of the race. That thing was slow, but it did add some spice to the race, and was driven fairly well. The MR2 was super slow & a real shwartz box...
The winning 914 was in a class of it's own. It was super fast on the straights and had great breaking capabilities too. I don't think they had 1 problem all weekend…There were a few fast Spec Racer Fords, but I think they experienced some troubles. The second place Acura was flawless too, just not as fast as the 914.
