Why can I not see a single spectator around the circuit? Vast empty stands-and I thought Friday was rest day in Moslem countries?

Who cares that a test driver is fastest? We all know that it's totally false pace this year.
Maybe they should put the practice on Thursdays next year to avoid clashing with Muslim prayers? |

The tester's pace is only false in the sense that they don't need to save their engine. If the Toyota tester is about as fast as the McLaren tester, that is probably not a bad guesstimation of the relative speed of those two teams.

Absolutely.
People tend to forget that whether it's on low fuel or slightly upped engine revs, the car still has to be physically capable of doing the times. |

Toyota continue to impress, although they still seem to lose a bit of pace come Sunday afternoon. Their solid performances should be a worry to Renault and Alonso, because McLaren and Toyota together could very easily lock-out the podium, even with a poor performance from one driver and/or a mechanical failure thrown in. BAR can always pop up there too.

Strong first showing of the McLarens: P2, P3 & P4 overall.
"Tiens, tiens..." Villeneuve ahead of Rubens, Ralf and Massa on a Friday practice. |
