I've spoken to a few stock and hot hatch drivers (I used to be one, for a short time, after all) - and even they sometimes consider it an unacceptable risk , particularly when there's 50 of the buggers all trying to qualify for the main final

I suppose when I mentioned 'modern F1' cars with their vast downforce, I was answering the ludricous comparison between the damage one of those could cause compared with a 5 ton truck.
Good luck to those who enjoy truck racing and I honestly hope I am wrong in my prophesies of doom.

it may come down to a black and whte comparo i many minds but racing is clearly full of grey areas- or rather a big grey area.
the "ludicrous" comparo of trucks to F1 is based on the pressure of downoforce and simply wieght.
5K of downforce through the wheels is still 5k of pressure, and enough suction is made to rip off manhole covers, and chunks of asphalt from dwoonforce and sticky tyres (even NASCAR can create enough grip to pull concrete chunks off of the track-martinsville this year)
so a heavy truckpossily compressing asphalt track in grooves where their tyres go i feel is just as likely as damage from downforce and grip-especially if you consider newer tarmac... the Kinetic and Potential energies of Trucks clearly will "peril and danger" any modern or previous open wheel car to stryctures on the track, this i can agree with, a run away truck is probably the worst thing- of course the sand traps work when a truck goes into one and they often sink deep in, or slow enough to drive through, where as the missles and spears which an open wheel car becomes skimming and cartwheel ing in the sand or off a tyre barrier is terrifying and very dangerous.
probably the only acceptable risk racing is full cage superproduction touring cars.
but we are discussing Super race trucks and why they aren't as popular one talks racing...
