I guess that's a no then...

You are perhaps?? Haven't seen the series this year, has been good ever since I started marshalling. How's Julian Howell getting on this year??

Surely one of cheapest ways to go motor racing - find a redundant FVJ and enter Monos.... (Are there any FVJ's for sale out there??)

Absolutly. I have seen several for sale over the last couple of months and a few can be found on the Monoposto website.
At the moment people are asking £3000+ for them but a good deal could be worked out as demand for a fvj car is low.
I started back in 1999 with a Lola T642E ff which i bought relatively cheap. After a little tlc the car has doubled in value.
I finished that season 3rd in mono kents with 1 class win. I have since improved on that to finish 2nd and are now leading the championship.
This was done on a budget of around £2000 a year. Monoposto is possibly the cheapest form of racing around and a warm welcome can greet any new comers.
We are at Donington this weekend With two races. mono 2000 ( FVL, F3, F2000...........)
and mono 1200, 1600, 1800 ( jedi, oms ff1600 FR1800 FVJ FFzetec......)
A total of 58 single seaters!!!
With the introduction of F Honda next year we may end up with 3 races at every meeting.
Great racing and friendly people, what more do you want.
Come along and have a chat any one out there.
As for Julian Howell he is making that Terapin fly. I know he had a 4th at Brands and some other good results which i cant remember off the top of my head.
Thanks for your support

Hi,

which class do you run in Lola ?

The monoposto sounds like a good place to start racing.
How does it compare with something like the Star of Midlands FF1600 championship ?

thanks

Mono kent 1600.
This is a class for ford x flow
1600 engines as ff.
Modifications>>>>>
Bodywork is free so wings may be fitted etc
Any tires can be used so many racers use second hand FVL. This keeps costs down.

It is a good place to start as many racers will give advice if you require. My car is quite old (1983) but still remains competative. This would not be so in Star of Midlands. Take a look at the website for info on regs etc.
We have races all @ the country Brands, Silverstone, Rockingham, Mallory, snett, Lydden......

If I was brave / rich enough - Monos would be the single seaters that I'd race. an excellent series, with some of the best clubbie drivers, that actually seem to respect each other.

Oh, for my student debt.....

wings and any wheels. wow that is open regulations.

Would the Star of Midlands be a more professional champioship then ?
and would it also be more expensive ?

thanks

Monos is club racing at it's best, most take it semi seriously I think, although there's plenty of serious motors out there - a good mix of drivers also..

Star of Midlands tries to be serious, but doesn't really have the grid sizes or quality.. There were only 12 cars at Cadwell the other week. Proper F Fordies will always be more expensive than running some of the cars within Monos (Formula Vauxhall Juniors go for cheap, as do spares apparently) - and they're relatively new cars.

Lola: I race in the Formula Honda Championship which is running at Donington this weekend along with the Monopostos. I also have a mate called Glen Peters running in Mono 1200.
What number are you and and what class and I'll try to pop over and say hi.
