Grand Am at Phoenix (the other PIR)
Once again the least favorite round of the Rolex series is upon us.
At least this year there are seperate races, so fans of the series' have 4 races to watch (2 Rolex, 2 GAC). Page: http://www.grandamerican.com/Events/Event.asp?ID=88 Entry list: http://www.grandamerican.com/Events/...asp?EventID=88 The GT race is tonight at 7:30pm Phoenix time, shown on speed at midnight. DP race is tomorrow at 7pm , shown on sunday at 4pm. Photos: http://www.grandamerican.com/Events/...asp?EventID=88 The only real interesting aspect of this race is the evening into night format. Other news: 9 hour race scheduled at Miller Motorsports park Pichhio seen testing with unknown 4.5L V8 that sounds like a banshee. |

I tell you what, the in-car cameras of Edwards and Magnussen couldn't have been more different. Edwards was really working the steering wheel and the throttle, while Magnussen looked to be on a nice Sunday drive.
After the 2h45 / 230mi race with no yellers and one pitstop with driver change the GTO did win by only around thirty seconds over the PTG BMW in second. The other GTO finished fourth, a lap down and behind another PTG BMW. With the short track, being just one mph slower over the lap than the leader would put someone almost two laps down. Just saying that the GTO did win, and led most of the laps, but it didn't exactly rocket off into the distance. The broadcast also said that the reason the suspension failed on the GTO at Mid-Ohio was that it was running out of travel in a rude manner that pulled it apart. No explanation of why it was bottoming out after over three inches of movement, but it seems very un P&M-like to have the suspension munge itself by bottoming out. |
