The Merit of T-Cars (formerly Next Best BTCC driver)
Don't worry FIRE, you're not the only one. T-Cars is a series for 14-17 year olds. They use a less powerful version of the chassis used in the Dutch Vege series (if that's still going). Usually helps if you are related to someone involved with motorsport (Palmer, Brundle, Quaife-Hobbs) or have a father with a big wallet (Chilton). With luck it will be several years before any of them are let near a touring car.
If this is a serious debate about who could/should be in BTCC in the next year or two then there are at least half a dozen drivers in Clios and SEATs who should be on this list. |

Since last year the Vege series is called BRL Light. The BRL Lights have a new Focus WTCC body. Compared to T-Cars the BRL Lights have a 2.3L engine. There is also a BRL-V6 series with 4L V6 powered tubeframe cars with Mondeo body. |

I'm sure that Max's dad will do the same for him as he did for Tom and give him a team for his birthday

T-Cars is a joke, and so are most of these drivers. I don't think any will be the next big BTCC driver, as I reckon the series will have dissapeared within a few years, its so awful these days.

actually Tcars was damn good to watch a lot better than i thought the drivers despite their ages as well are pretty good i think remember dont judge the series on the talent Tcars is a transition from karts to cars so for most of the drivers it is going to be quite new

so in essence what you are saying is that every junior championship is a joke and that we should pack them all in and just leave the big championships, well then we would have no motorsport at all

No because what I am saying is that T-Cars is not a real junior series, its just where rich old drivers children go to pretend they are going to be big stars when most of them give up eventually and finally give up the grid space to talented drivers in other series.

I tend to diagree with that statement, yes many drivers have money from thier parents to help them but surly if you had the money would you not do it at that young age???
Also many drivers even though are helped with money are still very quick and talented money just helps them get more experience alot quicker than some due to testing and driving a range of different cars, again not all of the drivers have the money for example daniel laddiman is finding sponsorship wherever he can and is on a very tight budget yet he still manages to find himself on the podium, now this must mean he has a certain ability! My last point is that i am sure that many young drivers do not 'just give up' motorsport is a very hard bussines to make a career out of due to the lack of sponsorship and support from the government etc and i can think of many junior drivers that won championships and races yet could not find a drive after the 'junior world' one name that comes to mind is jack timpany, he was quick but where is he now? |

hi this is Alex Brundle and I challange who eva thinks t-cars it a waste of time money and space to race anywhere any time. maybe people should stop spouting about how everyone is so rubbish in motorsport and show them how much beta it could be done . why simply sit there and tap away at ur comuters about how not worth it we all are when u guy are obviously so much beta than us and could all be in btcc tomorrow if u just rang up the teams offered ur services. stop kidding urselves everyone in junior motersport is learning thier trade cut them some slack

Alex, I've read your post 3 times now and I'm still struggling to understand it. Whatever point you were trying to make, however valid, has long since been lost. |

whether or not he is alex brundle does not matter because he does have a bloody good point there actually, these guys are the future of motorsport and judging them so early on when they are still learning is pretty harsh and unfair and to the people who do say Tcars is a waste of time tell me have you ever been to a meeting when Tcars is on because i enoyed it a lot more to what i thought i would have

dj, I don't think that anyone was suggesting that young drivers shouldn't learn; I think the suggestion is that there are better ways than T-Cars. I haven't seen too much of T-Cars, but the inference is that it is full of very young kids who obviously have a rich daddy; rich enough to run them in T-Cars rather than stick to karting which still needs a fair bit. How many 15 year olds do you know who have that kind of money to go and play with? as for talk of sponsorship, I don't believe that any serious business man is in the business of spending lots of cash so kids can 'learn'.
Most of the established racing drivers have come through karting. |

'don't believe that any serious business man is in the business of spending lots of cash so kids can 'learn'. ' no u would be right there ! but business men do not spend cash on drivers who have learnt and are as talented as they come! the truth of the matter is no one is spending money on motorsport full stop! sponsorship is hard to find at the best of times , so if u, ur dad or any other part of the family has the money then y not! i would n im sure u would too. Quote: Most of the established racing drivers have come through karting. so if u dnt do kartin ur not an 'established' driver! im sorry but most kartin these days cost a lot more than many junior series! u just dnt hear about it as much! just cos ppl see 14-16 year old racing CARS! they think 'dadddy' is payin but look at the drivers doin kartin , im sure everyone is queing up to sposnor them so 'daddy' doesnt have to pay!.....i dnt think so. |

Well I would suggest that any young driver with ambitions for professional racing would need to learn communication skills and diplomacy. Drivers have to be a package these days. Ability isn't enough - you also have to be able to sell yourself and ingratiate yourself with the fan base. Calling people names isn't the best way to go about that.
As for T-Cars, I'll be honest, they've never done much for me. But it's just as good a place to learn racecraft as any other. I do think it's a pity that there are many talented drivers that will never get to show what they can do in the BTCC. I'm a big fan of Johnny Fildes, who's not only an excellent driver, but a gentleman as well, but unfortunately, it's a fact of life that these days, it's got a lot more to do with money than talent. |

Whoa Redgate.
I know that karting CAN cost a lot - Euros = V expensive. Worlds cost more than FR. BUT I am sure that something like JICA has got to at worst 1/2 the cost of T-Cars. |

Hi people, first of all i am going to make a point that we can spell if we want to but we do have lives, therefore we sort of rush our typing.
Point made. I noticed that the guy shouting his mouth of the most has a scalextrix team, working the way up the motorsport ladder i presume? What gives such people a right to judge others, oh just because they have rich daddys (which we all don't). If you can do a season of JICA for half the price of T cars i will give a season of t cars away for free, t cars isnt as expensive as it is made out to be, there is no need to spend over 40k in a season, try doing jica for half of that. I still race karts and in karts you do not recieve half as much of the publicity you get in circuit racing, and the people up the real sharp end of the grid in karting make T cars look a bargain. People may think that t cars drivers are of a poor quality and that the championship doesn't do anything for them, maybe that is because we can actually have a race without binning everyone off, if a championship only does something for you if you see crashes all the time, maybe you should stick to the banger racing and not call yourself a fan of motorsport.
