FIA GT1 World Championship is go
From FIA press release
The FIA has reached agreement with SRO to be the promoter of the new FIA GT1 World Championship from 2010. As part of this agreement, the FIA GT Championship (GT1 and GT2) and the GT3 European Championship, will be split into three distinct and easily identifiable FIA GT Championships. The FIA GT1 World Championship will be for independent teams and professional drivers, the FIA GT2 European Championship for independent teams and pro-am driver crews, and the FIA GT3 European Championship for independent teams and non-professional drivers. |

We know Ratel said about 24 cars, with 6 different GT.
We have Ford GT and Nissan GT-R for sure, and maybe Lambo Murcielago. And about the other 3 GT1s ? Ascari? Lexus LF-A? Actual Corvette and Aston Martin? Ferrari/Porsche/Audi ? mmm |

Autosport is reporting that Michelotto are evaluating the possibility of providing an upgrade kit for the Ferrari F430 GT2 to turn it into a GT1 car, Vitaphone and AF Corse are said to be interested in running it.
Also there is mention of the Corvette C6.Rs being grandfathered in with some lower spec parts from Pratt & Miller. |

Autosport are also saying that the Spa 24 hours will be part of the Pro-Am GT2 series, rather than the GT1 World Championship...but the GT1 series will run a pair of 1-hour races on the Sunday afternoon, after the finish of the 24 hrs... So a major 24-hour race with over 50 years of history is going to be a support race for a couple of 1-hour GT1 sprints |

No GT1 at SPA, isn't that the jewel in the crown for any GT1 team?
As for upgrading GT2's to GT1 spec, if it's that simple why not have a single GT class across all ACO series and the FIA GT World Championship, replacing GT2 altogether, leaving the European Championship to GT3. |

By the way, has the ACO announced what it's doing with regards to GTs next year? Mr Ratel claims that they'll be running his formula (gods forbid) whereas whoever was representing Chevrolet on the podium (I was behind so couldn't see) said something along the lines of "we'll be back for the single GT class next year". |

Oh Lord!
After F1 and WRC, another one bites the dust. No top GT1's, no interest at all... What's next? replacing the LMP's with CN's and VdeV's? One thing I surely hate is when someone starts calling a championship "his championship"; after Mr. Ecclestone, Mr. Ratel? |

Do you really think there's 24 cars out there for this series? This year there are 13. They'd be practically doubling the field.

They need 18 and think they'll get 20 for the first year. I think 18 is doable since the World Championship will suppossedly be a good deal cheaper to run than the current FIA GT-series.

Ratel said that the GT1 should run in the 24h because he wants that the cars keep their endurance character - because the same cars should also run in the LMS or Le Mans. He don´t want sprint cars.

According to Sportscar Pro's the ACO may turn away car's like the Matech Ford GT as they aren't factory/manufacturer built car's.

The Aileron is actually quite a good looking car. Hope the bodywork doesn't change a lot with its entry into GT1, if the news is true.
Shame if Spyker dropped their support of the GT2 program though. |

Dawg? It strikes me that they would accept a Matech Ford GT, if FORD put their name to it, as they state they want manufacturers...
After reception of entries for the 2010 Le Mans 24 Hours, the ACO will decide to maintain the GT1 category (or not) according to well-defined criteria (presence of manufacturers, quality of the entries, reliability guarantees) So my guess is they are trying to keep 'home brew' heaps out of their pits! |

I would agree to the "home brew" as being a part of the reasoning. As to the Ford GT, Ford never homologated the car and it is no longer in production. No matter how good the tuner is that the car comes from it is not nor has ever been a mfg's submitted car, which makes it the equivelant of a kit car (IMO)! If the ACO accept this it will surely pi_s off the true mfgs as it widely (freaking chasm) circumvents the current rules of homologation! I believe the 4 (Aston, Ferrari, GM and Porsche) have already stated numerous times that they do not wish the Rats GT-1 rules.

Ford must be VERY mad seeing all these Matech and Doran GTs running around the track.

The Ford Racing website even links to Matech if you click the FIA logo: http://www.1fordracing.com/fordracing/ So I find it odd if FIA excludes Matech's Ford entry. It seems Ford gave Matech the card to represent Ford at the FIA level. Matech's site even mentions a new project that is starting with Ford around the Mustang. |
