Chris Hobson should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Kop Hill Climb Princes Risborough

Something out of the ordinary.

Kop Hill near Princes Risborough Buckinghamshire, has been a speed hill climb for motorcycles and motorcars since 1910. On Saturday, 26th and Sunday, 27th September 2009 there will be a revival meeting, The event will not be a timed speed hill climb but rather a commemorative run to recall Kop Hill's glorious past. A sort of mini-Goodwood on closed public roads!
The organisers are anticipating up to 50 motorcycles and 200 motorcars each day, the majority of which will be Veteran or Vintage that could have taken part in the early days of the run.

I am organising all the marshalling and am looking for a full team to run the event. Details are here:-
http://www.marshals.co.uk/national/b...hairman/25.htm
and here:-
http://www.kophillclimb.org.uk/

It should be a really good weekend - if you can help please contact me as shown below. I look forward to a deluge of replies!

I helped out ten years ago when they last ran this event and a great time was had by all.

Some of the olders runners were not much more than a chassis, engine, seat and steering wheel but nobody seemed to mind when they ran through the town to get back to the start.

Unfortuantely I have a prior engagement this year.

Chris, I'd be happy to help out, PM me and I'll give you my contact details. It's strange I drove through 'risboro every day for 8 years on my way to work at Walters Ash and didn't realise the was once a hill climb there.

I have had a few promises of support - can we tempt others to put their names forwards? Entries are rising and there =are some superb cars promised already

I had pencilled in Mr PieMan's event that weekend, but if I'm allowed out both days will nip down the road for the Saturday - will confirm closer to the date, but rest assured it's on my spreadsheet.

Free for both days & have already let Chris know - looking forward to something a bit different.

Looks like a busy weekend - their website contains these snippets

231 cars and motorcycles have been entered of which 44 are from the 1925 or earlier period.

Our earliest entrant is a 1903 Humberette. 70% of the entrants are pre-war cars and motorcycles

Well, Day one was a cracker!

Fantastically hot and all the locals seemed to want me to smell their BBQ's all day

A real range of cars, but so many happy smiling drivers (and passengers) who clearly appreciated the event and were out to enjoy it to the full. Lots of thanks to the marshals over the tannoy all day, plus a lot of drivers etc taking the trouble to say thanks personally - if only every meeting had that attitude

A very nice lunch laid on - sandwiches, crisps, kitkat and water might be normal enough, but a tray of sticky cakes plus a healthy apple or two were much appreciated.

The crowd seemed to like the local fire brigade plus the Veyron running up after lunch and gave a fantastic round of applause to the model T when he restarted himself after a stoppage near the beginning - out came the spanners, a quick unblocking of a fuel airlock and he cranked it up and shot (?) away. You don't see Hamilton under his bonnet at the side of the track do you!

I echo DJ's comments. A fun weekend, and my first time at a hillclimb. Thanks to Chris & Ray for looking after us over the weekend, you guys did a top job. The free lunches and lifts to post were greatly appreciated too.

I would definitely return next next year!

I only live in Watford and would have liked to have taken a run over for that, my brother lived there for years and I never knew there was a hillclimb there either although there are some steep hill in the area.

Got to echo all the comments above. We were well looked after and the cars were great.

Also, thanks to all the other volunteers at the event. They did the less glamourous jobs away from the hill so we got to have our fun on it.

Fantastic weekend, great company and where else would you see a line up of cars from a 1902 Humberette to a Bugatti Veyron with all types ancient and modern in between. From the waves of the drivers and passengers on their way up the hill they were having a great time as well. We may even have changed Bob's mind about bikes. Thanks to Chris and Ray for ensuring we were well looked after. I'll be there again next year.

Bob, I had a phone call from Dave Collett saying he was there on Saturday and he too thought it was brilliant and will go again next year.

Just to say a really big "THANK YOU" to all the volunteers. I have had so many e-mails from drivers, spectators and local residents praising the professional, friendly and firm way the marshalling was carried out.

The event raised around £25,000 for local charities - a fantastic result. It is almost certain that it will be repeated next year for the 100th anniversary.

I am also certain we will be asked to marshal the event again. So watch this space.

Every one - in orange and in black - made a superb impression. Team work was excellent and the public relations impact terrific.

Well done!

Hi all

Just for an update....Di's knee is worse than expected, she has an op next week to remove stray cartilage from her knee which is preventing her from walking...currently on crutches...

But...she still wants to marshal @ Thruxton this weekend

Mad or what!!

regards
