Good question - suggestion is that its already been welded so frequently that its getting to the point of no return but i guess either of the two names mentioned could do a repair to the case as well ?

I have only ever used JP and he has always done a fantastic job

I once had one of my Mk8/9 boxes sandblasted and then a small crack welded by them look great afterwards.

I think a new casing is around £1000 , might be worth getting someone to look at if first .

Hi Flipper

I can also recommend JP at silverstone just done the box on my Crossle 35F and has done an excellent job.

Ps If your car is fitted with side radiators I may have some spares for you.

Crossle still have magnesium casings in stock, if you're getting yours welded take it to someone who knows to machine the bellhousing face afterwards.
We often see them that haven't been refaced & also some that have been "repaired" with aluminium filler rod instead of magnesium.
Please contact Crossle if you have any queries or need parts, everything is still in stock.

Mick.

Exactweld in East Grinstead can and do weld the proverbial sh*t to a blanket.
Joking aside Guy is one of the best welders in the south east !

For what JP charges for a rebuild its worth getting him to rebuild and re-case. After all its only a reworked VW case, you dont have to have a new expensive Hewland one. All it takes is cutting out the bellhousing to clear the starter motor and a small bit of machining for the reverse gear.

Prob cost 200-300 quid for the casing and machining!!
