What is to stip Toyota from entering Petit Lemans instead of some remote race in Bahrain where sponsors get offended and viewership will be low. Petit is looking like a hoot this year. It has alot of marketing potential for them...Vs a race in Bahrain...
America vs Bahrain...You do the math haha.

Toyota has nothing to lose in the WEC anyway. They have already lost. Its good for them to do the other rounds but Bahrain doesnt seem high on the priority least.

They could run 1 car at Petit. Im certain Toyota North America is looking around for an excuse to promote the brand in NA.

Agreed but ACO/FIA wouldn't like that move very much... not that they could really do anything as they're way too scared of losing them (again).

It would be the ideal race for Toyota, not only the third biggest event of the sportscar calendar but also a great place for Toyota to see if there's any sense in running the cars in NA. And if they entered for sure we could se Audi returning as well. It's not like there's any championship at stake anymore, well there never was after the certain announcement...

The only problem is the close proximity of the Fuji and Shanghai weekends but it's not like either of these participants have problems with cash or logistics

Petit could be something like the unofficial P2 end-of-season World Cup if the majority of the ELMS teams decide to go there. With double points on offer, there's still everything to play for!

That raises the question: what if most of/all ELMS runners decide to turn up at the Petit, will there be enough space on the grid with around 35 ALMS regulars?

A very important 6 hour race at Fuji - a track Toyota owns - 6 days prior to PLM.

It took just 4 days for Aston Martin to ship & prep their LMP1 from Silverstone to Laguna Seca last year... they were already testing the car on track @ thursday, having just contested 6 hour race on previous Sunday

Fair. But its probably that Toyota will be rolling out two new chassis fresh from Cologne for the Fuji weekend.

They could run one of the test cars at Petit. The only issue being it would be very embarrassing to not win Petit if they enter and there are no Audis.

Maybe it won't happen, but, as you can tell, I really want it to happen.

Actually, Toyota has a very large potential market in areas of civil unrest.

That's just one of the re-branded ACO trucks carrying visitors to the circuit...

That truck alone has about twice the number of spectators that showed up to the ILMC rounds in China. Good to see the ACO is finally doing proper marketing in new markets.

They're just preparing themselves for next year's season finale, the 6 hours of Nigeria sponsored by Lotus, proud partner of non-existing racing programs.

Interesting little discussion going on here:
