Remember security can more than anti-terror. It could be that the current route is too tight for the increasing number of spectators.

Of course! I wasn't thinking it was for any other reason, but I highlighted the word because this year there are other considerations.

Because of the public overhanging the street that goes to the Place des Jacobins.

I'm a bit confused. Article mentions scrutineering for Le Mans itself, but the title and date suggests it's talking about scrutineering for the Test Day. Any local updates? Basically the article claims that one of the scrutineering periods (so far) is extended to 3 days because of the 60-car entry.

i have been to the drivers parade many times but the volume of people desperately trying to get a better view has made it less enjoyable in recent years so that i know prefer to spend friday evening relaxing in the campsite, but would say that if you have never been then make the effort this year the experience is well worth the effort

Very much the same - don't bother with the hustle and bustle and the added stress we usually go to the Italian off Mulsaane for a quiet meal then back to camp for a few beers!

Same here. Friday now consists of St Saturnin in the morning, shopping on the way back to the camp site, pit walk after lunch, wander down to Del Arte for a pleasant meal, then "night cap" back at camp. Expect to do the same this year.

Almost scope for a 'so what do you do on Friday' thread.

In years gone by we've done the pit walk - but it's really busy and often underwhelms. We take it as an opportunity to go and do something non car related - either find a chateau to wander round, or last year, head down towards Angers and explore some vineyards. Once we've done that coming back to the campsite, putting feet up and cooking dinner is a great way of marking the start of the race. Not done the driver's parade and honestly not sure I'm tempted - I've been struck that people coming back from it are generally grinning, which is a great endorsement of it - but I'm equally sure it's not for me.

I did the parade several times in my last few years with the Tourists, ending with the infamous 'landlocked' evening in '09 when we didn't get to dinner until about 11 pm. If you haven't ever done it, you should, but I found it far more entertaining to watch from the point at which the drivers arrive, often on foot from the car park, rather than out on the packed streets. Not something I plan to do again. Like you, I think we'll be in Del Arte for the obligatory pre-race Pizza Marocco on Friday evening and then an early night in preparation for no sleep until Sunday night.....

I'd definitely recommend it. It's not massively my sort of thing, but once every 4/5 years it makes a nice change! To be fair last year we did it again, and I did enjoy it. That's it for a few years though!!

A good few years ago, we went for lunch in town and left before the parade... However we'd parked in the underground at the C&A... and had to drive most of the route with crowds lining it already. Now that was fun!!

Revamp on the ACO site, but the newer articles seem to have disappeared from the face of the Earth as the newest English one is from March. Even the French one seems thin in content

Sad news. His glory days predated my real engagement with sportscars but remember the level of enthusiasm that greeted early Group C days speculation of his return.

Once again we're reminded of sportscar racing's transience.

So after seeing Spa, how many LMP1 cars do you think will end up finishing inside overall top 10?

I'm gonna say four. Perhaps only three ahead of first LMP2 though.

I believe 5 of the 6 hybrids will finish inside the top 10. I suspect that Spa will prove to have been a freak race.

The fact that all the factory hybrid cars are on the cutting edge of modern development means that they have to push to the limit to be competitive so reliability suffers, certainly showing up in the first two races

A big part of me would like to see a topsy turvy Le Mans but we've seen countless times before that you can win the race with a technical issue. So you can certainly finish in the top five with a few technical issues.

I think the factory P1s will do better than we give them credit for, but if we start seeing shunts then they are going to be wishing they could unload a third car off the truck.
