2016 FIA WEC 6 Hours of Circuit of the Americas aka Lone Star Le Mans
After J Jay's reminder (invitation?) I thought I wanted some of that evasive e-fame (woop woop!) for myself as well, so here is, without further delay, brought to you by sponsors tentenths.com and "coffee break (tm)", our WEC COTA race thread anchor.
So the FIA WEC is visiting one of the better tilkedromes (IMHO), which will throw itself at 6 P1-Hs (hi, Chiana),2 P1s, 10 P2s and 13 GTEs tagged as Pro and Am (again, hi, Chiana!) Note there's no official entry list up yet (on their own site, but look below for what they posted to twitter), but the one-off mexico entry in P2 seems gone, leaving us with 31 cars after Rebellion's cut expenses. Also with the IWTSCC running the same weekend, we'll see the seldom sight of all four Fords being at one track. Our residential Mike Hedlund will not be participating, but, conspiracy theories aside, not because WEC management is dumb as straw (for once?) It's this beautiful track: (full event map (FIA WEC)) Full timetable Timeanddate conversion links:
For the visually dominated: Entry list as posted to twitter: Spotter Guide Live timing FRC 2016 - WEC Round 6: Lone Star Le Mans Streaming* - Radio Le Mans (audio), FIA WEC (paywalled), there might be a non-geoblocked eurosport (german AND english, like for mexico?) stream available as well. * more information will become available as time goes on. We hope. Last edited by Ephaeton; 14 Sep 2016 at 15:28. Reason: found a better image on FIA WEC's twitter |

Flight leaves at 6:30am tomorrow. Will be there by 11 or so. Can't wait. 40th birthday is this Friday. In total hoping for a memorable, sports car filled weekend. Last year caught pneumonia while I was there, praying to the racing gods that doesn't happen again.
Who else will be there??? |

Happy soon to be birthday! I will be there in spirit. Perhaps you need to have some more bbq. so as to ward off any potential ailments? Come to think of it.. that had the exact opposite effect for me back in 14.

First time to the track, going with Scott. Not a super big bbq fan, but I'll put that aside for the 400th birthday.

Would be neat if we can get some shots of WEC and IMSA cars next to each other, even if it is just in passing.

Audi a hair faster than Porsche in practice 1, now live timing for practice 2 is broken, showing only one car.

Does anyone know what happened to the #7 Audi during what I believe was FP2? There is video of it on the WEC site in which it is on track running very slowly.
Thanks! |

motorsport-total.com just mentions (de) a 'defect in the drive train' without further specifics.

I checked all the stats so far even going back to the PWC race. The rank of classes from fastest to slowest at COTA right now is:
1. WEC LMP1 1 min 47 2. WEC LMP2 1 min 56 3. IMSA P 1 min 58 4. IMSA LMPC 2 min 01 5. IMSA GTLM 2 min 03 6. WEC GTE PRO 2 min 04 7. PWC GT3 (just about the same as GTE PRO) 2 min 04 8. WEC GTE AM 2 min 06 9. IMSA GTD 2 min 08 (still about 3 seconds a lap faster than GTD in 2015) |

At least Toyota is within about a second. Qualifying pace is not their forte, so hopefully it's as close or closer than Mexico was. Do imsa and wec run different start/finish lines?

it's on _now_ (I thought the timeanddate conversion links in the first post would help, but oh well)

wrt links, motorsport-total.com obviously is streaming the qualifying (but it doesn't work for me? Geoblocked? Incompetent? too many extensions blocking stuff? who knows) under http://www.motorsport-total.com/wec/live-stream

Doesn't work for me, either. No matter. I will enjoy the race enough .... Thanks for the help, and I hope that we all get whatever we deserve from life ... and can be good with whatever that might be.

still not strict enough of track limits enforcement for my taste... looks WAY better than the IMSA version of Quali, yet still far off perfect. Was just watching the #88 cut turn 8 (all four tyres outside the white lines) - just riding the curbs with two of your tyres isn't good enough.

The eurosport feed doesn't have qualifying either.

Toyota not even bothering in qualifying. Just saving the tires.

it is advertised as "live" in the eurosportplayer.de yet that's paywalled as well. Audi seems to continue to put on the pace though.
