TomR should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Demand and Supply

I am currently working on a uni project looking into demand and supply in the Motorsport industry, particularly peaks and troughs in demand, and how the business survives in these trough periods.

If anyone can give information on how peaks and troughs affect them (as a racer, team, constructor etc),such as what do you do over the winter months it would be much appreciated.

Hope someone can help.

over the winter months I eat mud and go rallying, right now the demand is there but generally speaking the supply is at too higher price resulting in a motorsport recession.

in season - race and fix car, off season - fix and rebuild. I normally take the off season as a good chance to replace worn parts, rebuild engine etc. In the season its just maintainence.

Before the season finishes, it is time to look forward and see whether there is an opportunity to move up the ladder eg a new race series, a new sponsor etc.
Check for new rules/regs to existing series or obtain rules/regs for new series.
At season's end, strip car back to basics and replace/repair any worn parts, if money and time permit perhaps a bit of pre-season testing.
The winter is the time for me to earn some proper money for next year.

Tom,

May I suggest you contact a few of the race car manufacturers to get their view on this as they will almost certainly have management information that will help with your project. The Autosport Directory is probably a very good little book to get hold of for names and address's etc.

Good luck with the project and don't forget to let us know how you get on.
