Why not do a Formula 1 game in the style of the Colin McRae Rally games?
It could work I think. Imagine a game called 'Ayrton Senna Grand Prix' with cars from 1991. Race Ayrton Senna's championship winning MP4/7(?) as well as the Williams FW14B and the Benetton B191 amongst other cars. Unlock older Grand Prix cars as you progress through the game. Do you think a game like this could be done and if so how would it do? I think so, the only downside would be only having Senna's name in the game and the others all made up, ala CMR2.

I though of a very similar thing some time ago.
But like an F1 game with the liveries of one season and then continually release addon packs with another season liverie, graphic updates, etc. like The Sims with it's add on games like The Sims Livin' Large, Houseparty, Hot Date, and so on. But i wouldn't call it 'Ayrton Senna Grand Prix' as it's too restricting, but maybe a name like 'F1: Racing In History' or whatever. PS: It's the McLaren MP4/6 from 1991. Or how about a game where you have to gain a Superlicence before you can race F1 but the criteria keep changing - so if you set it in the 80s you have to finish well up (top 5) in the F2 or F3000 championships - they could call it Sandro Nannini F1 Licence quest!! Can you beleive Allesandro was turned down initially when he tried to get an F1 licence - in the long run it was a good thing because he would have debuted the Minardi F1 car and his career may have sunk without trace on the back of it, as it so nearly did for Piero Martini.

Or even recreate Ayrton Senna's whole career, like beginning as a young Ayrton with karting in Brasil and ending as lead driver of Williams in 1994.

Not sure how a game could compress a 30 year racing career into a game though. Nice idea though, but how would they get round Imola 1994? |

I think it would just have to end like in real life, in lap 7 of the Imola GP the steeringcolumn breaks, and everyone knows the rest i suppose.

I would like a huge game where you could race any car in F1 history, at any track, with the correct opposition... that would be fantastic...

the FIA is the reason why all of these brilliant ideas have not been made into a game. An offical license means that have to be restrictive with what they put in it- so I dont think you will see any F1 games with carrers or RD style storylines for a loooong time.

The FIA normally hate people making games that use multiple formulae. EA were said to have initially wanted to include the F3000 in one of their F1 games, but that was dashed by the simply fact it was frowned upon. Considering the number of non-FIA organised series Senna raced in, it would be beyond Codemasters to get all the licenses.
Theoretically, they could make a game using the Senna license and just include made up cars and drivers, a bit like the woeful Johnny Herbert's Grand Prix on PC/PSX a few years ago, but on a bigger scale, or just make a license less game and see what happens. |
