How Many Races?

We have 19 Champ Car races this year. 11 in the U.S./3 in Canada/2 in Mexico/2 in Europe/1 in Australia....now how many races will we have by 2006/2007? Let's say CART keeps the 19 races (including Road America) we have this year.... Chris Pook said that Houston (#20) will be back next year, plus a Chicago street circuit (#21) in the near future. CP wants two more races in Europe... Estoril (#22) and Spa (#23)? CP would also like to add in least one (maybe 2) races in the Asia/Pacific market(s). Possible countries mentioned.... China, Japan, Malayshia or a possible 2nd race for Australia. That would mean #24 to #25 races a season! Does that sound right to you guys or do you think CART (Chris Pook) will drop a few races?

I think that in the comming months, there may be a number of places competing for CART races. The weaker venues wiil be dropped. The strain of more than 20 races on the teams, would be too much.

What venues are too weak? Denver is weak and could be dropped, but the rest of the 18 races (venues) are quite strong or are getting stronger.

Why couldn't CART support more then 20 races? NASCAR races 36 out of 40 weekends every year. Yes I no, NASCAR has sponsors (money) coming out of their ying-yang, but by 2005 to 2007 CART could have some major sponsors again. Meaning they coud easily run 23-25 races a year!

That would be the end of road racing for CART in North America. If Chris Pook is smart and I think he is, he won't let that happen.

He's crafty, but I think he's pretty clueless about the North American fanbase.

They should be running more like 25 races, _or_ a winter series. NASCAR dominates in large part because it's on so often!

NASCAR because it appeals to the most people " they like to see carnage" CART would have to dumb down to get that pop' I hope they never do.
If NASCAR had to travel as much as CART how many races would they put on?

Unfortunately, events at Mid-Ohio and RoadAmerica are remote enough that sponsors are hard to find. From the sponsors point of view, there are not enough amenities (restaurants, top hotels, etc.) to properly entertain their numerous guests. Events in downtown Houston, RoadAtlanta and (hopefully) downtown Washington DC offer a huge quantity of hospitality in comparison. I hate it because I love these traditional road courses, but I can understand the businessman's point of view.
