i need help getting started in either GT Lights or the radical160 series any help much appreciated !!!! please help also need help finding sponsers!!!

Uhm... If you need sponsorship, you don't have money. And we all need sponsorship.

jimbocaruso-you have to get started first on your own money,before any sensible sponsor will look at you.Contact BRSCC/BARC/750MC,etc,for details of low cost championships. First shock will be the entry fees!
Once you have a 'CV'you can aproach companies that can profit by helping you to move up into professional televised series.
Of course before you can enter you need a licence,for which you have to do the ARDS course,so you first stop must be a racing school.

You will not able to find budget in the first year. You have to get going with your own money and after the first or second year, you can start looking for sponsorship money. Same story here in Hungary by the way. If I were you, I would try to put together some kind of sponsorship packages. For a certain amount of money you could buy for example tickets to the races, test time on circuts where you could take arround the key clients of the sponsor in a "sporty" car; and then multiply that certain amount by 3 and ask that from the sponsor. But in this case you can say that he is getting all these guaranteed things for his/her money. This things can work after you produced results.

Here's the thing Jimbocaruso, There are a lot of wise ***** telling you that you have to spend your money the first year and get some results, put together a cv and presto sponsors. Be real! Save your money if you havn't got the contacts to get sponsors now (Mum, Dad Uncles etc.)it aint going to happen. Get a well paying job, buy a GT global or the like, run it yourself and have fun.

I am one of the few lucky enough to be making a career as a driver, however it has been a long slog for 14 years (since 8 years old!!)and I am only just in the process of turning professional.

I appreciate that I am extremly fortunate to be doing a job that I love, however if I have kids I will not be keen for them to follow in my footsteps!! It is a totally soul destroying journey and you a)have to have the talent b) be tough enough mentally to deal with the 1000's of knockbacks that you will receive (not just financially) C) have the right contacts within the sport

I truly believe it is the most difficult profession to pursue and you need to be completely determined and 100% committed just to stand a chance.

Mac is right, concentrate on a 'proper' career and then when you are earning decent money by a race car and go racing for reasonably sensible money in one of the UK's many club series.

Its probably not the answer you want to hear but im afraid its the hard truth.

If you are determined to find out for yourself then I would suggest entering some kind of scholarship or competition (like tim sugdens clio scholarship - www.bearacingdriver.com or co.uk??) this way you will at least discover if you have the ability.
