I knew that the Indy cars went to Monza and Rathman had won the "Race of Two Worlds", but didn't know about a run by the Indy Cars at Daytona...

It's ironic that the Indy Roadsters won this race when you look two years down the road....when Jack Brabham brought his Cooper Climax to Indy in 1961, followed by Gurney in a rear-engined car powered by the first all-aluminum block V-8 ever built by GM (a 215 cu. in. engine race built by Mickey Thompson that later was sold to Rover and became the Rover V-8)

Gurney's experience caused him to buy a round-trip ticket to Indy for Colin Chapman, and the rest is history...changed Champ Cars here in the States forever...
