Kolles came into endurance racing with zero experience and they raced with pay drivers. Moreover itt was the slowest team in DTM for numerous years.

I think we've a way to go before we start referring to the 908 in quite the same light as the 962 <flippant> assuming of course we're talking about the Peugeot 908 as opposed to the Porsche </flippant>.
It's a great car, no question, and one that I feel privileged to have seen in the flesh. In what it's seen off however in terms of more modern opposition I think the question is a lot more open. Looking at last year the R15 could potentially be seen as being a mis-step by Audi (and let's be honest, I'd see it as 1 to Audi (Sebring), 1 to Peugeot (Le Mans) and one draw (PLM)). Let's see what happens over the rest of this year - if nothing else previous LMS seasons should have told us that qualifying in LMS events are monumentally meaningless events. Just to put a bit of context in there, are we thinking that a private 908 might pull Joest-at-Dijon achievement off and win in 2014? |

Someone asked about trap speeds from testing.
LMP1 #8 Signature Plus Lola-Aston Martin- 316.716km/h #4 Oreca matmut Peugeot 908 HDI- 313.953km/h #9 AMR Lola-Aston Martin- 312.139km/h #13 Rebellion Lola Judd- 303.371km/h LMP2 #25 RML Lola HPD- 291.105km/h #42 Strakka ARX-01C HPD- 288.770km/h #40 Quifel ASM Zytek- 282.723km/h #41 Bruichladdich Lola Judd- 281.250km/h If I have misrepresented which car a team is running, please correct me. The PDF timing sheets do NOT specify engine or chassis, so I was going from memory as best I could. Hope this helps. |

You didn't just compare the still wet behind the ears 908 to the 962 did you? Give me a call when the 908 is still winning races 13 years after its debut...

The Acuras, in LMP2 guise, have been quite competitive in the States, and finished second overall on two occasions at Sebring. Yes, Fernandez was DQ'd in 2008 after failing the post-race, stall test, but that doesn't change the fact that the car lasted the distance and finished second on the road.

I was more concerned that they (Highcroft) wouldn't complete the 24 hours in June. I hope that they do, but I have my doubts. In any case, we will see how the Strakka guys go later today, they certainly have that thing flying. All though, 12 jarring hours at Sebring and 8 hours at Paul Ricard is a good indication, 24 hours at LM for the HPD cars are another matter.

Post #153 in thread (from me), posted just before qualifying started-
just noticed on the live timing screen (via the lms site) at the top right is a button for "live video" - it is greyed out at the moment, but might it come good tomorrow? Hope I am on to something... |

No argument from me on the performance/quality of Highcroft and I even class myself as a fan of the team. But I am a fan of many of the teams. I just think that success at Sebring or in the ALMS does not necessarily transpire into success at Le Mans. Hell, it didn't do the R15 much good last year, (but there were some other issues there). Duncan Dayton seems to think that way too. From memory he was saying that this year is a learning year for them at LM or words to that effect.

So I suppose it must be the pi-s poor driver line-up of Brabs, Werner and Marino that is the weak link then? L.P. |

Hindy is on for Warm-Up.
A bit of excitement in the first few corners as the guys are still on cold rubber. |

The only thing I would like to see is compulsory attendance by the big teams in the major series if they want to be considered for Le Mans. |

Ol' Nige is getting lazy, in the RLM interview he's saying that he'll drive the first two stints and then hand over to Leo and Greg for the rest of the race...

It isn't Nigel that needs racing experience though. I think he is right to let his boys get racing experience on the track however rather worrying come the 24 hour race at Le Mans!

#95 Ferrari will probably be stuck in someone's door before too much longer, Jean Alesi is starting the race in that car.
EDIT: Sarrazin vs. McNish in the first stints! *rubs hands together* |

Does anyone have the RLM direct link so I can open it in VLC or Media Player or whatever? I formatted my laptop recently and lost it!
I always end up closing the browser if it's playing from that! |
