I don't have a problem with that. As long as it isn't the same weekend as Champ Cars!

The two big areas that cannot have runoff added:
Turn 10. Right now, there's 15 feet of dirt, then tires and concrete. Directly on the other side of that wall is a state highway. On the other side of that state highway is a protected wetland. They can't move the highway into the wetland, so they can't move the wall out and create runoff. Coming full-tilt-boogie off the Esses and T10, a car arrives in Turn 11, a 35 mph hairpin. If you blow it, there's maybe 30 feet of asphalt, two tire stacks and a concrete wall. You can't add runoff there without completely reconfiguring the pit entrance and moving the Jim Russell Racing School garages. Not going to happen either. |

Well the IRL cars as they stand aren't confugured for road courses, so my guess would be that they would be slow at Infineon anyways. If they did push their cars, then their suspension system would snap like twigs.
But lets all focus on Champ Car's 05 schesule, please. |

How did Sonoma get into this thread ?! - must be something in the grape juice... btw, INFINEON AG (the company, not the Raceway) are "dying" to get into Champ Car - we might see them somewhere along the line next year, especially if we'll race in Germany [hint]...

I can definitely see that happening. But why are they so adamant into getting into Champ Car? I'm not ctiticizing their decision - in fact I am happy to hear that. I guess with all of today's sponsorship seemingly going to other racing series I guess it kinda caught me off-guard.

^ Infineon is in DTM and a few other European series, they may cater to IRL when Sonoma winds up on their schedule but that's about all... in the meantime they have been trying (since last year) in getting on the Champ Car sidepods (JAG/Rahal) but only if CCWS goes to Germany - that is their #1 clause... they might change that reasoning come the 2005 Silly Season... we shall see...

Infineon was an associate on Patrick's Visteon car last year.

Mags, Sears Point is great. Yes, I will always call it by that name. As long as they have plenty of tires, and maybe some catch fencing, at turns 10 and 11, it should work out alright. The track probably seems narrower than it actually is because of these esses. The two hairpins, and that run up to the first right hander, at the top of the hill, should probide scope for overtaking, even for open wheelers. My feeling is, if ALMS can run there without too much carnage, with four classes out there at one time, CART shouldn't have such a huge problem running there.

I really don't see problems at Infineon that couldn't be fixed for high-powered open-wheel cars. If Nextel Cup cars can run there, and pass in Turn 11 and elsewhere, I don't see why a more nimble IRL or OWRS car couldn't.

I believe that Turns 10 and 11 were the places where SAFER Barriers have been recommended by the other series...they are under consideration by Sears Point concerning whether or not they want to move to the next step to host a race by making those installations and changes.... |

btw, here's a pic of the Seoul racetrack that is being built with Champ Car in mind ->
have no clue exactly where it is or what are the dimensions - wish I could understand Korean... here's some links worth checking for those who do: Korean Motorsports Center = http://www.kmc-power.com/ Korean Racing Association = http://www.kara.or.kr/ Korean F3 site = http://www.f3korea.net/index.htm Latest news is that this track will not be ready for this year but next... this year we might see Champ Car in the streets of Seoul... a very big "MIGHT" ?! zerO |

You can't even be sure about Toronto, Vancouver & Montreal. Why worry about some "maybe" track half way around the world.?

Think the "attitude" comes from 17 pages of speculation, a little knowledge here, a little knowledge there, a twist here, a twist there, a maybe here, a probably there, a "what if" here, a cheerlead there, it's July and we don't have an '04 schedule nailed down yet. I don't know about zerO's, but that's my "attitude."

Look, coolbear makes a valid point, but I think that we can reasonably speculate that the Canadian races are going to be a part of any future Champ Car schedules. Yes, Vancouver is iffy, but we can assume that Toronto and Montreal will be Champ Car staples. And maybe Calgary too.
The Canadian venues have always drawn great crowds and a lot of fan support. Oh yeah, not to mention a ton of revenue for the series, the cities, and the promoters. It would be STUPID to ignore the Canadian market. That's all I have to say about the subject. Peace out, y'all! |

FLASH:
According to this = http://www.philly.com/mld/dailynews/sports/9159919.htm - the city of Philadelphia will be seeking a Champ Car race through its streets (and park) that could be organized as soon as year 2006 ?! zerO |

Frank Rizzo and others are seeking a "Grand Prix" type event with a major series, and that Champ Cars and the American Le Mans Series would be considered and/or approached.... Personally, I wouldn't read too much into Mario's indirect quote on this, either.....since he's from the Keystone State and they know him well, they probably contacted him when they couldn't reach anyone at Champ Cars for a comment... Philly also would be a great venue for the ALMS, and would give them an added presence in the Northeast....personally, I think they do a better job of marketing their series than anyone else but NASCAR.... Question: Philly is a big market, and would be an great addition to any major racing series.... However, it is not far from a facility that could or should be done by 2006...Rauch Creek.... From everything I've heard, seen and read, Rauch Creek would be a much better venue to consider than doing another street race..... But that's just my opinion.... |

^ Looks like their top choices are:
1. F1 - not likely since Indy got extended 2. Champ Car or ALMS in 2006 !!! but, it still is a long way off - proposals haven't been submitted yet ?! zerO Last edited by zerO; 15 Jul 2004 at 18:44. |

One important note in Champ Car's favor on this....
Their policy for racing events (as of last October) is to work with established promoters with a track record of hosting major motorsports events, and they are not in the "self-promoted" events business anymore.... The City of Philly (unless they hook up with a noted promoter like Dover, etc) doesn't have that track record that ALMS would be seeking.... and since they don't do the "self-presented byt the series" thing anymore, this could give Champ cars the inside track for this possible event... |
