Pretty good challenge.

Okay, this is based around Stampede Park. Good access by light rail and by road. Lots of parking, lots of room, nice scenery, and even existing grandstands and a concert stage on the grounds.

Note the Adelaide-inspired pit/paddock.

Wow, Lee, that's quite impressive. I made a sketch of a track at Stampede Park as well, but I didn't know there were this much facilities already there.

Where did you get the map?

Here's my attempt at the challenge. I don't know if the roads are wide enough, but I placed my circuit at the Burns Memorial Gardens. For my track to work some road will have to be built because the street I used for my pits appeared to be a dead end street, one way on and one way off the road, so I connected it to the road running next to it. The dark gray at the north end of the circuit can be used as an alternate route bypassing the esses in case of an accident or it can be used for racing for those series that don't want to use the esses. The red part can be used for the short circuit, or it can be the full circuit if my original circuit would be deemed too long. What do you all think?

Another nice subject to work on (perhaps later, though). Read this article about "Saving Montlhery".

Another circuit I stumpled upon: Active Mountain Raceway. I'm not too familiar with it, but I did find a couple of parts of the design that I think could be better. Here's my version.

Thanks! I thought about the fast sweepers/straight at the top of the image, but I opted fot the fast sweepers -- they're more of a challenge.

Maybe it's needless to say, but the Active Mountain Raceway runs counter-clockwise.

Here's my version. It's more of a street course than Lee's.

The images is rotated to the right 90 degrees.

Well, i love the first corner much like copse in ways, very fast.
Not so sure though on turn 2 but brilliant parabollica idea. I feel the hairpin could be a little looser.
The next section for me is brilliant. And of course the stadium has always been a test for all drivers!

Wow! you guys did an amazing job! When I started to think about it, the first two places I thought of were the airport and Stampede Park. And I must say to Lustigson, that is by far the most amazing airport course I have ever seen! Lot's of passing, interesting corners, and you could even view the race from the terminal! Unfortunately, being a city of around 1 million people, shutting down the airport even for a week would not be a viable option, as it is the only large scale international airport for 300km. Great track though! I'll forward it to the appropriate city officials!

Now to the royskopp's creation. Very cool indeed, unfortunately the interchange you selcected is only one lane wide on the on/off ramps.

I think Stampede Park is the most viable location for a street race. These are streets that see virtually no traffic, except during Flames games at the Saddledome, and the 10 days out of the year that it's used for the Stampede. So Lee, you did some great scouting. I would be concerned about the two bridges, however, as the metal expansion joints may be a problem for the tires, but you guys would probably know more about that than I would. And the bridge at the north is a one lane bridge, but if you pushed it up to the one just north of it, it would probably work out. And in the infield of the horse track actually contains buildings not marked on the map (or any maps I've ever seen of the park) so you wouldn't be able to run through there. Also, the eastern straightaway runs through a small residential neighbourhood, but if you could convince the residence to let a few cars go through, the track would run up a hill that would give a sudden elevation change that would rival Laguna Seca! Lustigson's Stampede Park track is pretty awesome, except that on the southern edge where it turns onto Macloed Trail passes over the LRT tracks, which would defineitely shred the tires, if not put a few cars airborne.

Mandretti, unfortuantely that area is actually the SAIT campus (Southern Alberta Institute of Technology) and I think the streets are a bit narrow, and there are actually a couple of buildings in the way. It would be a really cool race to watch though!

I'll see if I can find a good quality map of the Stampede Park area.

Nope, the map Lee found seems to be the best one. Just a note, the entire area west of the horse racing tracks, basically right up to the LRT tracks is a giant parking lot where they set up the temporary rides during Stampede week, so feel free to use that space in any way you please. I'll see if I can come up with a decent layout once my computer stops being a piece of garbage, and I can open my graphics editting software.

I still have a thing for that awesome airport course though...
