From what I've read, you have to preserve your right front in particular. You can run flat out in 2-3 laps in qually, but to that in the race and you'll destroy your right front. As several posters say on RSC, do that and "your history".......

BTW, it seemed to me that someone (not p, his warps were exactly the same as usual), was warping very badly indeed ay Kya, although I never identified who it was. When I say badly, I mean appearing only very briefly for a second or so. I should also say that for me, Spud's server was absolutely top notch. As good as its ever been.

Got a new PB earlier today - 0:53:268.

Yep, noticed that too. And as such, I spent this evening doing a 60 lap training session, trying to lap consistently fast and go off as little as possible. Here's the results:

Two shift+R offs, and a few biffs which bent the steering, hence that sequence of 56s. Quite satisfyingly consistent though. Particularly pleased with laps 1-34, virtually all in the 54s. Looks like that's what I'm aiming for in the race then.

Good going Richard, this could get fun
I'm pretty consistently in the high 53s atm, but still eating that RF tire a bit.

I've just downloaded Indy and had a quick for 10 laps. My best lap was a 0:55.1, but I was using a Spa setup vey hastiliy modified. The understeer was horrendous by lap 4, so what about 60! I could almost hear the RF going 'munchy munchy munchy munchy!'

I'm sure getting hold of a decent setup will sort that though.

I've taken a bite out of the wall already as well. To use the American term, the car was 'loose' and when entering the corner I over corrected and speared off. It was so good I saved the clip for nolstalgia later.

lol.
I did a good bit of two wheeling earlier
Hit the wall having "pushed" out wide, and it tipped the car up onto its left hand wheels scraping me alloys across the tarmac totally ruining them

I did my first 7-8 laps last night using an IMS set up - can't find any true Indy 67's. Its amazing just how quickly you fry that right front and start getting the most incredible understeer. I still haven't sorted out how to drive ovals yet - I avoid them like the plague. 7-8 laps running on my own was enough to bore me to tears..... I suppose running in a race, especially if we have a turn out like Tuesday will be more entertaining. I'm still in the low 54's, but that's without really trying. As far as qualifying is concerned, I don't intend to try at all - getting pole is going to be pretty meaningless (apart from the extra point ) - over 60 laps, consistency and the ability to avoid accidents and save your tires will be pretty important.

I agree ayse i am lapping in the 56/57 s and my tyres are still going then, i think grid is unimportant keeping off the walls for 60 laps and tyre coservation are more important. With another good grid it will be more interesting i hope.

I know I'm not going to be able to keep it out of the wall.

That RF tyre will get eaten badly no matter what. It happens in real life, in every sim that has Indy in it or as an add on track, that RF tyre gets eaten up.

I think I'm gonna make a few pitstops. I'll be at the back anyway, assuming I get into the race this time.

Pitstops? What, to just sit there and watch?

AFAIK, if you quit to the pits, your race is over. If you just park in the pits, nothing will happen.

Unless you shift-R, of course......

We may have to have a ruling from Tony in advance about the number of permissible shift-Rs in this particular race. Otherwise I can see people making tactical shift-Rs every ten laps or so......

As I suggested might be possible earlier, though I was thinking more of fuel than tyres at that stage. I agree in the interests of a good non tactical race we should have a limit as to how many shift-R's you can make, say 5. (that means you'll have to keep going for 12 laps at least before crashing )
Also I think 60 laps is getting a bit on the long side...

Just thinking about it, if the race pace is going to be around 53-54 seconds, a 60 lap race is going to be just short of an hour!

yeah, and don't forget the pace might drop off to around 55/56 seconds for a lot of the race, because none of us have ever done this before, and as hard as we might try to save them the tyres are gonna be totally buggered by the end...

If we are having a limit of shift r s then i might not bother as i will have to crawl round so i dont spin or hit the wall which means i cant race so no point.

We had a limit for every race in season one...
I had to retire three or four times because of it.

Perhaps we can just say "no tactical shift-Rs" rather than a shift-R limit, I think it wouldn't be hard to spot someone consistently shift-Ring. But then again, what's worse, coping with overheating tyres and losing a second a lap, bearing in mind that will be the case for everyone, or shift-R'ing every 4 laps to replenish your tyres? you'd be losing a couple of seconds or more each time...

Just a sugestion what about a limit of ten laps before a shift r that would make six max for the race. Then again its not a proper race.Perhaps
we should stay with unlimited as it will cost time anyway and your fuel weight would go back to full load. Thus making it a disadvantage to shift r tactically.
