In some way it can be understood, but in reality it is VDG's money that is paying his salary and keeping the team going so the mechanic needs to understand that

1) Sauber actually only signed vdG and one other. Then the company may have folded and vdG has no drive.
2) Sauber did what they actually did and vdG has no drive. |

This and the mess at Manor is making F1 look very silly and if this and problems at force india do not make bernie nervous then he is burying his head in the sand IMHO

Sauber top brass need to be out of a job. High stakes gamble was made, it didn't pay off, heads should roll.
They took GvdG's cool millions...and well that's kinda it. Can't do that though. |

Ok, it will not help hair his image, but by not driving you already miss the F1 train for coming years, so at least you can fight for a decent compensation.

Except I don't believe that there were any other teams interested in him as a driver, although they may have been lured by the smell of any money that he was wafting under their noses.
As to PC's comments about Sauber metaphorically taking the money and running, I still believe that there is more to this story than has so far leaked out. The old adage of a bird in the hand, etc. comes to mind, and I can't help but think that Sauber would have approached him and his advisers before they negotiated the deals with the other two. I really am looking forward to hearing Sauber's side of this part of the story, because so far all we have had is the biased views of GvdG. |

Dutch F1 reporter Olav Mol thinks a financial settlement has been made but the team and VD Garde's side don't want to say what because otherwise the Aussie court might not be too happy about taking all week for that when they could have settled before going to court.
he thinks all will be revealed when the teams move on to the next GP and leave Australia. Last edited by steve nielsen; 14 Mar 2015 at 19:47. |

Sauber's defence and their appeal against the first Victoria ruling was based not on the substance of their argument in the Swiss court, but on why the court in Melbourne should not uphold the ruling given the circumstances as they were on the day that they appeared in the Melbourne court, not as they were in December or earlier when the case was heard in Switzerland. I hope that that makes sense. |

Pretty obvious now why van der Garde wanted to drive ... Nice one, Sauber! You may have made a mess of the paperwork, but the car is excellent! Especially given the circumstances under which it was designed and built!

Maybe Ericsson and VDG could take turns in the same cars in different races, remember the year 1995 Ligier Brundle/Suzuki

Can you imagine if GvdG got Nasr's seat? On the strength of today it would be a big fight between Giedo and Marcus to see which one is most unimpressive

Love to see Flavio back. I know its a contentious subject but the pit lane needs some more outspoken piranha fish. Mix it up a bit. Isnt he FA's "manager" or mentor. Whats that?

F1 needs less seedy characters of dubious integrity - not more.

Nasr's bringing a significant amount of money to the team isn't he? And he seems like a better driver than either van der Garde or Ericsson. Surely he's safe unless the team folds?

Well the situation currently is not very good for attracting backers and pay drivers can surely not provide enough on their own to fund the team
