current trends in the maserati mc-12 saga lead one to believe that a ALMS campaign is looking more and more likely for 2005... too soon to tell though
also there is a confirmation of a totally new LMP1 car and team (not shaw technologies) on the ALMS forums for 2005 and beyond. the car and team are supposed to be an all American effort based out of IL. and run by two people who have money and have been involved in sportscars before... check the ALMS forums for more info as one of the owners has been giving info and updates pretty regularly, they plan to be at sebring pending crash testing and homologation, the car is apparently in its final build phase LMP1 2x Champion Racing Audi R8 2x Dyson Racing Team Inc. i'm willing to bet Maserati's participation in the full ALMS series will depend heavily on whether they have success at Sebring or not. And whether the rules don't make them uncompetitive.

Champion has not officially released their drivers as of yet. JJ is a good bet though. Note on list above.... tblincoe -> you might have wished to read the article a little better at DSC, before rushing to post the news. Alex Job "PLANS" to have a second car... nothing more for now. Not solid, but definately hopeful. Last edited by Fogelhund; 10 Jan 2005 at 23:19. |

i didn't rush to do anything fogelhound... maybe you should go back and read the article again yourself. the article states that Russell Witenburg heard from AJR that they are proceeding with plans to put drivers in the second car and when AJR says they are going to do something then i'm pretty darn sure they're gonna do it. not as "solid" as a press release, but more "solid" then hopeful as you state it. i mean its not like we're not talking about shaw planning something, this is AJR who definitely have the means to find two drivers for a car.

www.dailysportscar.com today reports that Titan racing http://www.teamtitanracing.com/ is going to contest the 2005 ALMS with 2 of its own LMP 1 class cars. Should be a interesting entry, lets just hope its competitive.

i want to post an update to the list, but i have a few questions first... does anybody know what the deal is for both Miracle and Mid-American Motorsport? it sounds to me from the most recent DSC article that Miracle is running only 1 car, and there are also rumblings that Mid-American Motosport deal is defunct and that Pacific Coast Racing will run a single Corvette C5-R. anybody have word on these two teams?

on the ALMS boards someone tied with the project has stated that they only have one car as of now, but there is the possibility of moving to two cars later on

I don't know if DSC changed their original posting, but it certainly doesn't say now that there will be two cars. Having talked with team members on the phone, I'd suggest that Sebring is unlikely to happen, though still possible.
They certainly seem quite excited about the project, and hopefully they can be competitive. |

Anyway, Yokohamas will be an interesting move. They've previously provided good GT tires (2001 BMW - Schnitzer ran Michelins and PTG ran Yokos), so the company is capable. Drivers should be finalized by Monday. |

yeah yokohamas have always had good sports car tires, in 2001 the Park Place Saleen S7-R used them and miracle motorsports used them on their car last year and obviously they are used quite extensivley in the JGTC championship along with bridgestone. now there is a thought, it would be good to see bridgestone in the ALMS, LMES, LeMans or FIA GT. they obviously make good sports car tires as the leading toyota, honda and nissan teams use them

What about the Riley in LMP1? Hopefully Titan for race 2 and onward, but it still has hurdles to jump, such as crash testing and final approval. Will we see the Old Girl again?
I think Panhard will join LMP2 at some point, but to suggest when is speculative for now. MCR is at one car for now, and then, not even funded for the season I think. Hopefully they can run that one car for the season, but certainly not set in stone. The second car is likely to be a Sebring, PLM type of thing. Van der Steur similarily is likely to cherry pick events and not be a full season entrant. GT2... well, 2nd AJR, J3, PK, Bam and Risi all seem to either be very much in doubt, or in some cases just plain done. If there are eight cars on for the season, jump for joy. It's also very possible we'll see just six GT cars. 17 cars for the full season seem pretty solid for now. A few more will get their programs together, so we are looking at maybe around 20-24, likely closer to that lower number. Lots of work to do in 05', to get the grids up in 06'. Romain Dumas confirmed to Infocourse - and probably other sites - that he'll enter the ALMS with the AJR Porsche (only one car for the team), with Timo Bernhard.
He mentionned the fact that he chosed Porsche as a "bet on the future" : "I hope that something will happen with Porsche"... LMES and LM and expected too.... FWIW... Last edited by Fab; 18 Jan 2005 at 04:16. |
