Brick, Its common knowledge that TV3 lost over a million plus dollars last year on supercars and they cant play the coverage when it suits due to the Australian race time schedule so one would think they arent fighting over it. Sky have it and it will go well with the Toyota Motor Racing Series currently playing.

..... but once upon a time, they made us flick over to C4? to watch once 6pm came around.

my guess is they lost money due to poor patronage, fuelled by pathetic viewing times. could have saved money by flicking to Aussie coverage and not subjecting us to NZ presenters pretending to be informed. Trace, Doully, etc offerred nothing to the coverage, but still clipped the ticket.

I do hope "fighting" mean tv3 care enough to actually have proper coverage this year.

TV3 do a grea job comparable with any on-par coverage in the world today. The harsh reality is that airing motorsport is always going to be a commercial exercise. May be if you understood some of the realities of running a business as they have to do, then you would understand the constraints they operate within.

You are lucky to have a Sunday motorsport show.Very lucky.

I think you would struggle to find many fans who agree with that.
They started off fine. Then choose to delay the Sunday races to a crazy hour.
That's what ruined it. You just have to look at the V8s fb page the last couple of days to see what the fans are upset about.
Even a 1030 showing would have been a heap better.

With today's technology if you want people to watch your channel you have to be pretty close to live etc other wise fans turn to other means then dont watch anything at all on that channel

CONFIRMED: THE V8's TO SKY SPORTS

Sky Sports have confirmed this evening what many had forecast - that they have obtained the New Zealand broadcasting rights to the International V8 Supercars Series for 2013, and a further four years.

This ends the TV3 V8 Supercar tenure. TV3 won the rights for the category for the 2007 season, and held onto the footage until a ratings slump in 2011/2012.

Here is the broadcast schedule for this weekend's Adelaide 500:

Clipsal 500 Adelaide

Fri March 1: 5.30pm - Qualifying 1

Fri March 1: 6.30pm - Top Ten Shootout - 6.30pm

Sat March 2: 5pm - Race 1

Sun March 3: 1.30pm - Qualifying 2

Sun March 3: 5pm - Race 2

With luck Sky will broadcast live to that other island off the coast of Australia, Britain.

OK, it's a long way off the coast but the principal's the same...

Hmm, haven't MotorsTV got it? Mainly highlights, with Bathurst and another race, likely Surfers, live. And in low definition.......

Drat. I was going to cancel Sky...

Personally, I don't really care too much about delayed coverage and the F1 is on in the middle of the night, so I record it and I may or may not record the V8s. I am still not a fan of one/two make/model racing and I never will be.

I don't want to sit front of the TV all weekend anyway so wil record only what I want - and that does NOt include boring top ten shoot outs or qualifying. OK for the diehards I suppose, but what people need to be aware of is the general decline in live spectator and TV numbers across the genre.

On the plus side, I hope that TV3 continues to give us a variety of motorsport that doesn't have to be at the top level - and contines with Shaun and Shane telling it like it is and refusing to be muzzled. Just get rid of that screaming idiot at the Speedway.

What I'd like to see is a wide coverage including the biggest growth area but with the least cash - classics. A golden opportunity for a major sponsor to step up and cover the massive variety in classic racing. Oh, and where grids are generally considerably larger than 9 cars and they are intersting.

So here is my question then, when ATEED and the Govt agreed to fund the Pukekohe upgrade, was it on the basis that there would be free to air TV coverage to help showcase our great city?

If so, where does that leave them now? Will it run live on Prime for Pukekohe only or will Sky just not worry about it?

To answer my own question, it seems that free to air coverage on short delay will be provided for the ITM400.

I think that this outcome was inevitable and it's great news for those who are Sky subscribers, not so much for those who aren't.
