Perhaps next year you should always do the last stint then you'll see loads of cheq'd flags! ...as long as the co-drivers are as good as you that is!!

I assume your tongue was pressed firmly in your cheek when you wrote that

Anyway next year it will not be a problem, i've decided the only night driving i'll do is home from the circuit.

The Fiesta with less than standard lights was somewhat amusing!

Its amazing at night with bad lights how many more corners and kerbs a circuit seems to gain, i'm sure the owners of the circuit hide tham in daylight and only bring them out at night when they think no one is looking !!!!!!!!!!!

Did you not notice that MSV put three marker cones with luminous bands around them before each bend?

It was certainly interesting, particularly after the last safety car when the Smith/Cuff machine deployed a smoke screen to hide their getaway (not that they needed it by then !)

How did everyone find driving in the dark ?? It was my first experience as we missed D'ton...certainly learnt a lot...like you cannot have too many lights on a car !

Archibold, i agree you cannot have too many lights on the car, but what a pain in the rear when the car behind has got wembley floodlights on it, all you get is eyes full of light !!!!!!
And thanks, i was last car in the train after saftey car, thought it had got foggy !!!!!!!!!

I noticed that a lot of the cars had white tape over the rear window with very thin gaps between layers. Presumably to stop the glare from the car behind?

There was a distinct lack of funky lights on the cars this time though, one or two illuminated aerials and a couple with lights in the windscreen, but nothing like last years race.

Martin

We used the stuff that they put on buses to make the advertisements that you can see through one way (think it is called micropore or something similar). This was very effective at stopping the driver being dazzled whilst being able to see what was behind you. I also find judging the distance of how far a car was behind you much more difficult than during the day....

The other problem with a car behind you that has a magnitude brighter lights than you is that they can cause your own car to cast shadows which move about in a strange way which is quite off-putting.

We used 2x HID, 2x ordinary main beam and 2x floodlight spots which was barely adequate. Some friends of ours use 6 x HID mounted on the bodywork and the cars normal lights uprated for the Nurburgring, you can never have too much light !!

If you mean the Blue & Yellow one Stephen ..... I admit t'was I.....Was supposed to be driving the Integra but it had brake problems in qualifying so I didn't get much time in it at all...Didn't really want to blow a good finish through not knowing the car.....

No lights in the Fiesta really and no water in the washers either - Couldn't see a thing around the GP loop 'cept when faster cars lit the way.....

It was a case of following the white lines and turning in when terrified :-)

I think we should petition for a line down the centre of the track with some markers painted in like...

----Right Hander in a bit------
-----Nearly There-------
-----Really - You're nearly there now----------
-----It's here - Brake a bit / quite a bit/ lots-------
-----Now !! Turn in a bit / quite a bit / Lots-----
-----I meant right you eejit---------
------That was the apex back there - Thats the barrier-----

And so on......

I thought my night vision had gone awol as well...Until I found the main beam and aux lights were off during the race. What a pillock.

Next year will invest in some military spec goggles. Then I'll stay with Cuff....

...Surprised Del wasn't there. His night vision is fantastic. I've seen him skulking around the sheep fields at midnight..

Well done Angus et al., excellent results. I normally go quicker at night, racing that is, not sheep skulking !!

Don't say that Martin, loads of Smedley carrots, and big eff off auxillary lights - you'll be OK. You wanna try Nurburgring at night in the rain - not much scares me, but they almost had to padlock the harnesses to "persuade" me in for the 2nd stint.

I wish I had come to watch - too busy making millionaires out of the Lifeforce shareholders......actually I have just had a brainwave Angus. I'll email you.

PS: Anyone know anyone who might be interested in buying a full FIA spec Prosport-ready to race...just right for Britsports I'd say...let me know as well!!
