99% certain he'll be contracted to drive VX BTCC cars only.

Yep, both Thompson and Yvan Muller have driven other's cars. Thommo even started rallying too.

According to Sportautomoto the times of the Vallelunga test were:

1. Rickard Rydell 1'43"30
2. Fabrizio Giovanardi 1'43"70
3. Dirk Muller 1'44"50

Some problems occurred with the new Advan-Yokohama tires, because one model suited better the SEAT, another the Alfa and another one the BMW, but there wasn't a tire who suited fairly the 3 cars.

No Chevrolet because they are against the choice of adopting Yokohama's tires already this year with only a few tests. They think there could be some problems.

Next test at Kyalami, Dec 19-20

From today's Autosport - Giovanardi eyes Alfa WTCC runs
...contract with 888 gives him the freedom to race in other series on non-clashing weekends... most likely semi-work Alfa Romeo for Nordauto... currently undertaking Alfa's development of new Yoko WTCC tyres..

Don't understand this. Do they not want to test before Yokohama has decided which tire they will use next season?

At least it's good to see Alfa is still testing.

Two months after European touring cup and the problems with Yokohama tires continue. Can Yokohama solve those problems before season begins?

Auto hebdo sport reports that Marcel Costa (former Spanish F3 champion) and Antonio Chacón (Alfa Challenge racer this year) would have tested ROAL´s BMW 320i. One of them could drive in WTCC for BMW Italy-Spain.

The WTCC has made some changes to the weight handicap system for next season.

At the start of the season every driver will have 20 kg extra weight in his car.

Extra weight handicap after race finish:
1st position + 40kg
2nd position + 30kg
3rd position + 20kg
4th position + 10kg
5th position +/- 0kg
6th position - 5kg
7th position - 10kg
8th position - 15kg
9th position and lower - 20kg

For every 10 points in the championship a driver gets 5 kg extra weight. Besides the 20 kg starting weight a driver can have maximum 80 kg extra weight in his car. So the maximum weight difference between the heaviest and lightest car is 100 kg.

Today Sportautomoto reported some news...most about privateers entries:
- Salvatore Tavano on a BMW
- a BMW 320 E90 for Proteam, and an E46, drivers Rangoni for the E90 and D'aste or Cirò for the E46
- a BMW 320 E90 for Rosenblad at Crawford, plus an E46
- a BMW for Goransson
- a Honda JAS for Corthals...however it seems they'll run only one car

These are only rumours, nothing confirmed, except for Rangoni. I'm surprised the E90 will be available for privateers already during next season...

Plus there is also the Alfa story, the cars, three, seems will be run by Nordauto, with drivers among Farfus, Melo, Salo and Giovanardi

No the problem is that they think Yokohama hasn't developed a suitable tire up to now. As a consequence Chevrolet wasn't invited at the Kyalami's test (if they want to test, they had to pay)

Infoscourse (an endurance web) has an interview with Hugues de Chaunac, asking him about 2006 project in WTCC he answers that SEAT Sport will have three cars (Rydell, Terting and Gené) and Oreca two (Thompson and Muller), i wonder: and Tarquini? A third team?

That is wierd. There are four possible scenarios in my head, one far more likely than the others.

1) He just made a mistake
2) Tarquini is with a third SEAT WTCC team
3) SEAT have switched him to the BTCC team
4) He has swapped back to the Alfa WTCC team

RS Line will run a Lambo in FIA GT and LMS next season. Their Ford Focus cars are available for leasing. So this means no RS Line in WTCC or Procar (German touring car championship) next season.

Is there more money or coverage to race in the FIA GT series? Or is it cheaper to race in the FIA GT? So there won't be any more Fords on the starting grid?

It seems that the Kyalamy test went better:

Quote:
POSITIVE TYRE TEST FOR YOKOHAMA IN KYALAMI
The two days of testing organised by Yokohama on the South African track of Kyalami for developing the Advan control tyre for the 2006 FIA World Touring Car Championship proved to be positive.

Despite unexpected showers, on Monday and Tuesday, Alfa Romeo, BMW and SEAT tested four different solutions with Fabrizio Giovanardi, Jörg Müller and Rickard Rydell respectively.

“The tyres we tested were based for the construction on those we had previously tested in Vallelunga, but the compounds were new. We are happy because we have found in Kyalami the kind of weather conditions we needed,” Yokohama’s marketing manager Kazuyoshi Sekiguchi commented.

Perhaps more than just those two according to a quote by Mr Capito in autosport.com. However, they will all be privateer entries as Ford will not provide works status. Somehow they feel they have done their part and now the Focus needs only development by privateers...
