My manager told me that my licence arrived on Friday. 5 weeks from submission of paperwork. Mind you its the frist time I've completed the form correctly! Normally its three weeks, including the MSA returning the form for me to sign.

I'm sure I don't need to say this but don't forget that there is bog all us nice race admin peeps can do to assist you if you turn up on a Saturday or Sunday morning at sign on without any licence or a fax from the MSA confirming that they have processed your application.

If you know that your application has been processed you might have a chance of sweet talking an MSA Steward but it is much easier to face the MSA's call queuing system before hand!

Just got my "credit card" style licence. It's a small piece of plastic. I suppose it can now get lost in the large pile of other "credit card" style bits of plastic and card that I now seem to own. I'd sort of hoped for a nice neat little pastic wallet, just bigger, to keep it nice and make it easy to find, but sadly the licence holder is exactly the same size as it used to be. It does now have a cunning crimp in the plastic to keep the little licence in one corner. Sadly this neat little cubbyhole isn't big enough to also fit my "credit card" style JEC membership card, 750MC membership card, MGCC membership card, Thoroughbred series membership card and Transponder number card as well. I guess they'll have to float around in the rest of the wallet and drop out in my kit bag as they always have. Forgive me if I'm completely underwhelmed.

Not that this is any help to you now but lots of drivers used to write their transponder number on their race licence. Of course that is a useless piece of information now that you don't have a paper licence!

I'm looking foward to not having to prise 80 paper licences out of wallets on a Saturday morning though and hoping the cc licences will be easier!

I cut out a bit of card the size of a credit card and wrote it on.

If you have very small fingers, maybe. But, as I said, the wallet now has a little crimped off area to put it in. I got mine in, but my fingers are too big to get it out again. I'll be leaving it to the officials

Frankly I wouldn't even know where to find the transponder anyway. I've got a copy of an old entry form in my race files and that's what I use if asked.

Been a while since you filled out a race entry then. From the beginning of last year most entry forms have had a space for filling in your transponder number with words such as "mandatory" next to it!

Oh great - I'll look forward to another season of fighting to get licences out of wallets!

No, I usually put TBA and have no problem. It gets filled in at sign on. It seems a bit daft really because each one has a unique signal and even if you do give them the number they visually check from the timekeeper's office. (I know because they told me). I think its manadatory to have the transponder, not to provide the number before sign on.

Peter - matching cars to transponders is fine so long as there are only a few missing - trying to match the whole field is a whole different ball game. Your approach works only as long as everyone else plays by the rules.

Seriously. I spent some time with MST in the timekeepers office in donington a while back so I do know its not a problem.

I've done timekeeping and as I said it's not a problem to do but is time consuming and more problematic if the whole field haven't given their transponder number. Tieing up one loose transponder to one loose car is easy - having to do the same thing for 30 transponders and cars is naturally trickier.

It's much easier for everyone if competitors give their transponder number.

The other problem is that if they haven't been given we end up having to collect them from competitors at sign on and that just holds up sign on and everyone waits longer.

True. But even now I haven't completed my CC entry form because I can't get it electronically. However Masters tell me I can do it on the day because I've already registered and paid through them. So that's another time when I'll only produce the number at the "gate".

Sorry.

Edit: Prompted myself to check the C/C site and lo, entry form available electronically. Found transponder number (don't ask) and can now scan and send the form.

Amazing how a little gentle persuasion can be so more effective than big bold type on entry forms and threats of expulsion etc., etc. eh Piglet?

Hmm

You can be smug but remember one thing. He who pays his entries in advance can (even if it's piglet) get by on the day.

However I remembered I had the number tattoo'd on a certain part of my anatomy. I was reminded of this earlier today. So after a brief session with a swedish masseuse who asked what that number was for, I discovered the CC website and the forms, which oddly enough say "don't send money" just fill in the questionnaire (cue old joke) and turn up.

So I have, or did or whatever.
