AutoRacing1 has posted a fantasy circuit diagram of what they think the Qingdao track will look like. It looks pretty fast.

perhaps a left-field idea... but if a street race in Vegas is a no-goer, why not use the Roval at LVMS?

Keeps the cars racing in Vegas as seems to be the appeal of the original idea, and you wouldn't have the "pack racing" of the oval.

Personal opinion, but you should never race cars for oval racing on a roval. It would look stupid. Same as if they tried to go to Daytona or any other unsuitable track.

It's not a surprise, but it is welcome to see the confirmation. Speed is now reporting that Las Vegas Motor Speedway is OFF the 2012 calendar.

No surprise there. LVMS is pretty angry with the irl. My understanding was they felt they were made to be the scapegoat for the fatal crash, but also the irl left behind a huge mess from the multi car fatal crash and never bothered to clean it up. Debris and associated car fluids and parts everywhere.

That didn't take long.

I think there would be grounds for asking IndyCar to pay for the cost of clean-up. However, unless you're going to travel around with an entire Engineering Corps, which I don't expect any series to do, it would be virtually impossible to clean up that mess.

If the track was scapegoated, that's at least as much the media's doing as anything. After a pile-up like that, I'm not sure the series or LVMS could have done much of anything to quell the speculation, especially by those "journalists" who know ZERO about this sport.

They will race Texas in 2012.

Not personally on-board with that but whatever floats their boat.

This won't be for 2012, but it's something to keep in mind for a bit further down the road.

http://auto-racing.speedtv.com/artic...-indycar-date/

Having a permanent road course somewhere that the series has a fan base isn't such a bad thing, especially since F1 won't be complaining about IndyCar trying to go there (unlike Interlagos, which won't be happening for IndyCar because of F1).

This isn't the Phoenix that once was. It's been totally redone for Nascar. I was told all the details, but I can't remember, but it didn't seem open wheel friendly was my impression.

Beto Carrero World! I was tthere when I was a child! As the article says, it's the closest thing to Disney World this side of Panama.

They also host motocross races, first national races and now the FIM World Championship. They want to attract the Desafio das Estrelas and Granja Viana 500 karting races. According to this, the park owner wanted IndyCar as early as 1994-95, but Jacarepaguá outdrew them. This is serious business.

Santa Catalina doesn't have any paved road course - Canelinha's construction got halted in the mid 2000s. So the state government may give them some tax breaks.

MS, they haven't raised maximum banking at Phoenix, from what I could tell. The dog-leg has been realigned, and had it's banking raised. No part of the track is banked more than 11 degrees though, which is what it was before the changes anyway.

From testing footage, it doesn't look like they walled over the old paving either, so you might be able to effectively make use of the old dog-leg, if that was desired.

NBU38, politics are politics. That rundown is interesting, but it's not exactly surprising. The layout shown doesn't look much like one of Tilke's F1 designs, so I don't think we have to be too worried about that sort of aspirations.

What are you referring to with "politics are politics" and "I don't think we have to be too worried about that sort of aspirations"? What I'm saying is that state governments in Brazil and Argentina spend a lot of money in sports to promote tourism. This project seems very serious and could get the same backing as the São Paulo Indy 300.

Putting stae money behind such events is nothing new, hence, "politics is politics".

The "Aspirations" I was speaking of refers specifically to F1, which this facility does NOT look like it was expressly built for. Therefore, I'm not too concerned about FOM messing in proceedings at this new venue.

Interesting as I guess they need 16 races to satisfy the izod contract, as rumors had been rumbling about izod not being happy.

Looks like track rental time because I doubt they will find a promoter.

Baltimore has something like $12 million in debt and $100k in cash on hand.

Unless a magical pot of gold emerges that race isn't happening again.
