At the moment the hybrid options are rather pithy compared to what LMP1-H has to offer. The NSX has one fitted, but IIRC it only comes in at 7000+rpm or something equally ridiculous and its power output is pretty low.
Edit pulled the specs from the SGT site. 880kJ in harvesting per lap and 21kW (~28hp) in release. Last edited by J Jay; 21 Jan 2015 at 21:26. |

1.5 seconds faster is at Sepang over a 112 second lap. Fuji is about an 89 second lap. Thatd be something like 1.2 seconds faster at Fuji. So 1:29.0 would become 1:27.8 @Fuji. They could gain more time yet once theyre more familiar with the car.

While it'll be awesome than the TUSC Prototype class come 2017, I think GTA and ITR should at least get a leeway towards development. |

That's a strange timing for test, could've just brought it to Sepang this week and see how it compares directly against FIA GT3 and JAF-GT300. Lexus had their (GT500) 'development' gang in Malaysia anyway

I'm guessing the updates are in response to a lack of straight line speed which may have been the rumoured cause for concern for Lexus late last year. Car still looks wicked

That was prob a joke anyway. Like how BMW M3 GT2 should've belonged to taxi cab racing instead - rightfully...

I had no idea GT500 laptimes were so fast! Are DTM times comparable?
There is something exotic and interesting about Super GT. Maybe its the multi-class aspect, or the variety of machinery. |

Chiana is right that some of the cars featured in Super GT pander to otakus, but it's a small number and it's only featured in the GT300 class which has GT3 cars and home-grown racers like the hybrid Prius and CR-Z, BRZ and much more!

No I didn't mean it that way, it was just general reference to the influx of Japanese cultural influence / fandom many have. Or just that it's so different from western cultures generally. I might just as well have put this or that there
Apart from the tech + speed the "exotic" factor is the reason I'm following SGT, and it being japanese is for sure among the top reasons for that. It wouldn't nearly as attractive if it was say Chinese series, even if all the other ingredients and manufacturers were still there Also for me the tracks (except Fuji) are about as pure and unspoiled as the majority in North America and Australia which makes it more enjoyable to follow. Okay, I understand. But while the GT300 class has Goodsmile Racing and Pacific NAC (Otonokizaka), there's no anime livery in the GT500 class.
Last time I saw it was back in 2007 when Bandai sponsored a Lexus SC430 car with its Celestial Being livery. |

Makes them more unique when only few have them. And it's still more than you will find elsewhere

Back on topic, one of the reasons I'm a big fan of SGT is the honest-to-goodness tyre war, with more than one manufacturer being able to supply competitive tyres to multiple cars in both classes. It's likely also a big factor in how much quicker GT500 are than DTM despite the commonality in the base regulations. I know there are a quite a few top domestic/international series which have open tyre regulations, but a lot of those end up defaulting to one supplier for one reason or ano£$er. There's also still a strong impression of "racing improves the breed" that draws a lot of people to the series, even if the truth of that has waned over the years. In a climate where marketing seems to decide everything there's a lot of appeal in racing (and the development involved) that is seen to be just for the sake of winning and/or improving. Let's not forget the Gran Turismo factor as well. Certainly I would have followed SGT much later in my life if I didn't see the JGTC cars in video games of the time. |

Thanks as always samurai
So Bridgestone gains one new customer in GT500 while Mic looses one, Yokohama and Dunlop stay at 2 and 1. 'Drago Corse' NSX, is that the HDR Sakura? I guess that 4 is all Nismo is gonna afford indeed so it's gonna be tough(er). Mugen still listed in GT300, not GT500 (or absent altogether). So when it was reported that "they were out" of the class, maybe it was misinterpreted and it just meant they sold CR-Z for the use of another chassis? But why would someone with such deep connections to Honda do so? I don't understand it I counted 4x mother chassis + 3x older JAF 300, so that seven 'confirmed' non-GT3s in GT300 |
