The rear wing strikes me as cartoonish? If that makes sense. There aren't any straight lines on it. It looks really goofy.

I think this is a testbed for Maserati tbh. I think Maserati will make their own version of the LaFerrari, but possibly without the hybrid system, hence all the wings. They want to test how well the engine can cope with a different body, with more drag and less oomph.
The wings aside, I find the snorkle on the roof an oddity. If this was meant for something other than testing, why not use NACA-ducts? and the humps over the rear wheels look strange aswell. And the entire rear end looks like a copypasta job, just saying. It could all be a hoax, for all I know. There are of course at least two other possibilities; either it is a new car for a new series, or it is a factory effort for the E1-XP category at N24. |

Joe Saward has been writing about it as well. He suspects it is a test mule for the new F1 engine but may have other purposes.

Why can't this simply be a track version of LaFerrari, like the FXX was to the Enzo?

Test mule for two things in one would be my guess. The rumored more extreme LaFerrari and the F1 engine.

Looks to me like it's been designed for low radar signature, and not very well.....

Weird-looking exit ducts or something just ahead of the rear wheel centerline on the back deck.

Ferrari P1 Rumours
Some Translations:
They do speculate these could be tests either for F1 or Le Mans. The rear view shows something like a round central exhaust pipe, which could indicate a test of the new F1 engine. They expect this to be a Hybrid car, too. They said one of the reasons for Montezemolo's interest in LMP is "to be able to compete with competitors, not soft drink producers". It's stated that a decision shall be taken, soon. Expect them in LM for 2016. |

If they were just testing the F1 engine, why did they add racing parts like that giant and freak rear wing and front splitter? Are they trying to recreate the same amount of an lmp1 downforce pheraps?

Because they are not allowed to test the F1 engine ..... Hence all the obfuscation regarding a potential LeMans car....

Small roofscoops on either side of main air-intake: ERS-cooling? (what are the black openings behind?)
Very big rear wing. HUGE ducts above rear wheels: Radiator cooling outlets (from side air intakes) aimed to create more downforce from the rear wing. Very big splitter that releases the air through the "bonnet" and over the roof to create more front downforce. Additional diveplanes on the front corners. Center mounted exhaust pipe (maybe) I bet that car is very very light as well (700-800kg). --------------------- This has to be a F1 (of by tiny chance LMP1) test mule, with all that outside-any-regulations aerodynamic package. I think that is as much downforce you can squeeze out of a LaFerrari/F458 bodywork to make it resemble driving a F1 car the most. |
