Somehow they've managed to lure in both WSBR and TCR as support races (well, actually ELMS is the support race let's be honest, so it's otherwise around

) --> it's million times better package than Imola. You need to linkup with others, it's shared bills and feels more like a proper weekend. Also now you have single seaters, touring cars, and sports cars incl protos and GTs all in one weekend.

Anyway. Algarve Pro is somehow back, though would you really put much money on actually them appearing in the paddock? Maybe. Who knows with them.

Good to see still Michelins and no Dunlop-grabbings-after-LM in P2, variety is good.

At least this is something in summer unlike certain other ACO champ hibernating

They'll need a different car If they're going to do aslms then given its not possible to get the car from Fuji to estoril in time (on an elms budget at least...).

I'd expect oak with total to return though and possible Eurasia again. Who knows, they might fill a podium this time around.

Murphy in mid season chassis switch?

ELMS (and AsLMS) allows grandfathering of current P2 cars until the end of the 2018 so in theory that's 3,5 more seasons, enough to write off the investment.

As for the reasons? Getting an edge over all the Ligier and Oreca runners? Potential to become involved with a (rumored) P1 constructor? SMP/BR Engineering looking for a non-Russian partner to by-pass economic sanctions? Who knows but we'll probably find out soon.

I kind of thought smp selling a chassis to Murphy was a polite single finger to the ACO for not thinking of them as a constructor capable, or wanting, to sell chassis.

I would tend to think that the ACO desision on constructors was agreed long ago before the concept ever broke public view...2 French, Riley (courtesy of the France/Nascar/IMSA connections & Dallara probably as they had a full envelope........nudge, nudge, wink, wink.......so SMP were never in the running, nor any others.

Because they knew they weren't getting it. My point was two current p2 teams who don't agree with the future direction of the class have teamed up to do something that won't be allowed in wec after next year, and I think part of the reasoning was to spite the ACO.

I don't believe that Joeb, SMP/BR is still very much involved with ACO style racing, they now have to (partially) switch their focus on which classes to participate in (and supposedly they already have!) but their GTE effort is continuing (could be moving up from GTE-Am to Pro).

Murphy's motivation for testing - and trying to make a deal for - one of the new BR cars comes from the natural development of the class it seems + more on their future plans and intentions: http://www.dailysportscar.com/2015/0...ps-and-gt.html

Also scheduling is still a big challenge - even for the new ACO lead AsLMS series:
