Yet more FIA errors? date change for Norisring to be same as Zandvoort Masters and last round at Paul Ricard gives teams just 6 days to get everything ready for MAcau departure...no one is thinking about the good of F3 at the FIA/Berger/Euroseries

oh dear, the clash with the masters isn't very clever. nor is running it close with macau - they have to get back from ricard as well in that time presumably?

With most of the recent posts focusing on 2013 dates/drivers etc should it be moved to an F3 2013 thread rather that the somewhat gloomy title of the future of F3

I would imagine from direct communication with Berger &/or the FIA, knowing who 'Edenrace' is and his role within the sport.

No one mention that the Pau GP will clash with the FIA F3 round in Brands Hatch on the same weekend

It would be nice if Edenrace could clarify the open subject. Like a famous dude used to say, don't cheat the world of your contribution just give it what you've got.

Berger has acted disgracefully and succumbed to the muscle of Mercedes and Volkswagen. He didn't get a Christmas card from me this year! |

i'm not politically involved or on either side in this and it seems ridiculous. there's been some outrageous muppetry recently, particularly with the clash between zandvoort and the norisring races. but having the teams run with the new engines at macau... is there even an argument *for* doing that?

Which F3 Series got the international status by the FIA? On the calendar I see the Open and the British, Italian was refused international status and closed the series. ATS was refused too?

Now cut to just 4 triple header rounds. BF3 has been lingering for the last couple of years and time to cut national series and just focus on one European F3 Championship.

i swear i said this a while back, like a couple of years ago, but i think that italian and spanish f3 could have survived in a similar format. my only beef is that all the races aren't actually in the uk to showcase our great circuits. a driver could contest one national series, and use the same car in the european series. best of both worlds. teams have cars to use and drivers want track time.
it IS a huge shame the series can't exist in a full format. but f3 needs to be something different, and i think shorter national championships to support one big european one is the way forward. |

Like most things in life nowaday's, its just too damn expensive plus the British F3 Title doesn't cut the ice anymore. Was a time when it was a serious Passport to F1.

I personally think that this is a sad day, especially when you consider the F1 champions and other great drivers that made their names in this championship. Ironic that it comes on the 30th anniversary of the epic '83 season Senna-Brundle championship fight.
But yes costs were just too high and there arn't enough drivers with sufficent budget around to sustain it especially with all the competing championships. Maybe a re-think is needed to re-launch it in 2014? I know that MSV-JP have already expressed an interest? Perhaps a completely UK based championship with all older "National" spec cars would be a good thing with it then acting as stepping stone to the Euro series? Even better if it could have a prize towards it? |

With great sadness I believe BF3 has run its course and it ought to be canned now. It has teetered on the edge for the last few years and is a shadow of the great championship it once was. There is no point at all in hosting this 4 round series being proposed... it just serves to devalue it even more. A real pity, but not surprising unfortunately.

It is a shame.
I was told by those who know about these things that F3 was the ideal training ground for F1 because it required a very similar driving style. The massive downforce/grip/relatively low power equation was a good thing to learn early. I wonder if with next year's change to far more torque and turbo characteristics might have rendered it obsolete eventually anyway? But let's face it cost was the number one factor. I could never understand why drivers would spend half a million quid of Pater's dosh flogging around Oulton, Snetterton etc when the chances of them ever visiting again were probably zero. If the 4 round series helps the teams to survive whilst the industry is in flux then I'm all for it. |
