Drifty, you are absolved. I promise to be good over the weekend.

Simon, thanks for the double-check. I am mystified.

I didn't realise that Dupont was Swiss. There is one more Siffert car in the chassis listing, B71.71.18 which just says "SIFFERT (HUNCH)". Should we assume this means Siffert bought the car on a hunch that he might be able to sell it? He bought the car on behalf of a man called Hunch? He sold the car to a man with a hunch? Did Dupont have a hunch? Anyone have a hunch?

Or could the bloke be part Hungarian and part Swiss?

AH. Jorg Zabrowski

Also Trevor Twaites crashed heavily in the race in his B21 (said to be a B19 in the preview)

Only mentioned in the preview
Pete Smith (B21)
Roger Heavens (B21?)
I have poached some more information on this race from Martin Krejci's website (source). He lists the following B19s:

J. John Gray ('B19')
U. Wicky Racing: Michel Dupont ('B19')
AH. Jörg Zaborowski ('B19')
AI. Ralf Walter ('B19')
He also lists Trevor Twaites' B21.

This is the first recorded outing we have for Ralf Walter's car. Burton, whose car carried the identity B19.71.10 in 1971 will make his first appearance of 1972 six days after the Nürburgring at Paul Ricard with - I'm predicting - a brand new B21.

Dr Lienau - would you now be willing to let me see the document showing the original import details via Mr Sobek in 1971? Email me at allen@oldracingcars.com if you'd prefer not to post it here.

off top of my head i think the Gray B19 is later updated to b21-24?
Twaites B16#6 is made up into b21
roger heavens b16#35 broekn down to make b21-16
Welpton & smith break down B16 #16 to build b19/21 and later rebuild the B16 sold in 01
B16#8 Tuckett & Fletcher car broken down tobuild B19 they buy own kit and build the car themselves with suspenion parts from B16S crashed by peter Humble
Brian Robinson told me he had B16#7 broke it down to use parts for his b21-2 car build

Very good Peter! The closest I've got is Hundt. It was the Duckhams Oils Racing Team of H. Hundt GmbH that entered Bernd Terbeck's car in 1971 but Terbeck himself appears six places further down the list so that can't be right either.

Question time chaps.

As yet I have seen no mention of any cars being pulled down and rebuilt into Gropa's , but it did happen , how many I know not , I think only a few.

Bryan.

As far as I know, most of the Gropas were converted from B8's, [and that could open another can of worms] Bob Curl who also had a big hand in the Nomads.

all the b6/8 Chevrons that where turned into Gropas are now back as Chevrons B6/6 cars
Gropa made a run of cars from scatch
1 such car evolved into the Vogue sports car in the early to mid 70`s with march uprights 2 litre motor
a few Gropas are in UK & eec 1 in usa racing

Photographs

Can I make a plea for photographs of B19s please. Ether in period or in historic/vintage racing. Email anything you have to allen@oldracingcars.com or post it here.

What I really want are pictures that I can use (i.e. where I have the express permission of the copyright holder to use the picture).

I'm doing a summary of the information on this thread and it works best with pictures.

Many thanks
Allen

Steve W do you have any idea where Frank Aston resided? was he from Ironbridge area?
when did he stop running the B19?

Just been flicking through 1974 AS reporst and adverts and found 2 obituaries
1 Phill Scragg killed in a road car accident
2 Michel Dupont found gassed in his garage at home

The only information I have on Frank Aston is that he was a member of both the MAC and SUNBAC; this would indicate he was from the Midlands.

No idea when he actually stopped running the Chevron B19 but he was out in it during 1972 and then in 1973 I spotted him in entry lists driving an Astra and a Gropa.

Drifty, the car you asked about is shown above from Post #188. Chippy Stross was a Northern speed eventer based in Leeds and who ran mainly at Harewood.

Could this car be the ex-Reg Phillips car seeing as the ad claims that it was "used only for hillclimbs"?

Answering my own question - NO! Just been back to check UPHILL RACERS and Chris Mason mentions both Reg Phillips and "Chippy" Stross were running their Chevrons in the same season.
