I get that impression too. Merriman is patently out of his depth. Isn't that two years in a row that he's not made the race?

Of course, but your implication was that the best prepared team/car deserves to win....

I expect both Toyotas to run to a strict pace throughout the race avoiding any scrapping at the start with Alpine and the Glicks (and any hotshoes in LMP2). As we've said since Audi and Porsche absconded, it's Toyota's race to lose....

I did not extract myself in a proper way. I meant that the team who sacrifices the more during the preparations has the biggest chance to win.

My meteo app shows showers at 16:00 (the cold front should come in at that time of day)so the start could be tricky.

It is an odd statement. Going on about low downforce (standard at LM), hard tyres (same for everyone) and BoP (which doesn't exist in LMP2) .

Similar situation last year or year before (?) when a wayward Am Porsche withdrew during the race after a couple of trouser ruining moments?

Yeah, I remember that. Japanese chap wasn't it? Got in everyone's way and nearly caused several accidents and then basically said I'm not driving any more....

I was going to say Satoshi Hoshino, but he's actually good, and it was the other Proton car that was withdrawn that year (2019) because Krohn binned it and Long/Jonsson didn't want to drive in GTE-Pro as a duo.

Pretty amazing to me that Darren Turner set a 3:52.8 in the DBR9 in the Endurance Racing Legends qualifying session and in the 2007 LM24 qualifying GT1 pole was (The car entered is listed as a 2007) 3:50.7. Not bad for a "historic car".

There certainly wasn't in 1980, when the race started in a downpour. The photo of the start in the paper showed the lead car clearly and the rest of the field were hidden in spray. In those days they just got on with it.

That is properly quick, and it makes me wonder how similar the tires are to what was used in period. Do they have a similar compound? Or is he working with something more modern?
