How's the non-RLM commentary this year?

It actually starts out horribly for the opening salvo. But Toby warms up and it's fine in the latter parts.
It's slightly different this year as they switch between world feed and RLM more frequently. Biggest issue for me is the sound quality of the RLM stuff at times. That said I'm still very happy Duke have persevered with this format and we finally get review DVDs which give the race the treatment it deserves. |

Just finished watching it today. Very enjoyable. I'd have preferred to have RLM commentary all the way thorugh but the rest was fine. The important thing was that it was live commentary not the added-on post-event abomination

Bit quiet in here aren't we?
I need to get that Blu-ray to whet the appetite for 2014 again. |

Yep this time of year is always quiet in this forum but in a few weeks the ACO opens for booking 2014 so that will get the regulars interested again, had my renewal notice last week so had better pay that before the members booking period starts

Yes its wrong.
That place left me cold, disheartened and bored last year, and next year you might have to pay to park, imagine that! |

to be fair i'm only just back from the gloriously warm, sunny, and totally free elms/wsr weekender at paul ricard, so the harsh realities of silverstone (and the united kingdom) haven't kicked in yet

Oh, shock horror. I'll start saving up then. Yep, I'm looking forward to it too. I've got my room booked for Friday and Saturday night and the associated curry-fest, no doubt. |

Getting excited about 2014 but will leave silverstone booking until closer to the date, will have to decide what races to go to next year, Le mans 24, Le mans classic, Silverstone, Spa 6 hours and Spa 6 hour classic.
Would be nice to do all of them but might have to choose 3 and no I will not be missing the big one |

ooo, the spa 6 hours, good call!
i've JUST about figured out how to watch the 3 hour races - ricard was a great race with loads of twists and turns, but at that length strategy isn't so much of a big focus and you can almost sit still for the whole race without needing to go for a walk and lose the thread completely. so i reckon i'm about ready to try and watch and follow a 6 hour race now |

T'is actually easy Bella. According to the timestamps on my photos from Le Mans this year, Tony, James and I sat in the grandstand from about 2.20 pm until 7.50 pm when we finally decided to move on......

fair play for being able to sit in one place that long
but how do you actually keep a handle on whats going on in the race without timing screens, and constantly listening to the radio? that was one plus side of elms this year - small enough fields that you could keep an eye on all the lmp2 cars without losing your mind and getting confused. and there's only so much trouble they can cause in 3 hours, though nobody thought to remind tds of that |

that was good going, after the cheese, wine and other assorted stuff we all had sitting in one place without moving is very impressive. I would have needed a pee at least

Funny you say that Simon, I don't even remember nipping out for a pee-stop!

yeah, numbing your senses with booze and cheese really doesn't count as actually *watching* a race, you know

Very little booze, a little more cheese.... As I think Robert discovered with us last year, hitting the beer/wine/rocket fuel too early on Saturday isn't conducive to staying up all night.... And watching the race through the night is more important to me than the alcohol intake.....

Just a simple case of greed really. I wait all year to watch sportscars at night at Le Mans and missing any of it through over-indulgence just seems a waste!

An example of which was this year, me, my little sister and a mate of mine sat at Tetre Rouge from 10pm to 7am, and we only knew that because my dad came out to get us. Time absolutely flies at Le Mans. |
