I always try and help a driver resume safely. All sorts of problems with that (driver ignores me, twelve other marshals doing the same (probably with different ideas of what is a good time, my failure to agree with the driver whether my signal means GO NOW or 'why not think about putting it in gear now and moving off in a leisurely fashion') but worth a try.
But we will continue to try to provide guidance. The point about reminding marshals at training days about the increased numbers of HANS devices and the reduced head movement and hence visibility is a good one and I will see what I can do to get that noted. Regards Jim |

Why not go for a positive system like the lollypop in F1?

Difficult Al, how many would you eat, sorry, need on a track? Probably got the board where nobody would pull off.

Maybe a little collapsable job like a chinese fan you could carry in your pocket with STOP on one side and GO on the other.

I find that my seat (Cobra Evolution, with the big wings) and seating position (I nearly sit in the rear seat) alongside the rollcage and B pillar do more tolimit my side vision than the HANS device does. I fact my neck stops turning before the straps restrain my neck, mainly due to an old injury that I wear the HANS device for.

Going for the hattrick as well, Datto?
It is all a question of what type of car, seat or seating position you use. Some are easy on the Hans, some not. |

Not really, it was just the period where they've swapped servers here. So more than one poster posted double (as you did, see above somewhere) or even triple. Hence somebody started with the hat trick thing.
Now back on Hans. Or should that be hans on back? |

Hi All,
New to the forum and I would like some information if you could help me. I have a full face Peltor helmet without holes for post anchors for hans device. I ve seen to the FIA lists that is hans compatible but I dont know where I could send it for transformation (to be drilled in order to fit the post anchors). Unfortunately Peltor in Sweden told me I should get a new helmet (very easy to say though, since I have payed €700 to buy it 10 months ago)!!! The homologation deprtment of FIA told me that it could be done (since it is in the FIA list) but from someone eligible in order to do the job right and use the FIA post anchors. Does anyone know a company who could do this ? Sorry if I am off topic. Thanks in advance Kleis Last edited by KleisJ; 25 Sep 2006 at 14:34. |

Kleis, welcome to 10-10ths.
Send me a private message or give the proper type of helmet here. I'll talk to my supplier who is allowed to do that in Greece, if your helmet is Hans compatible. |

In the US HANS seems massive - went karting last night and there were a couple of HANS teams (charity endurance for PLM) but also HANS ads boards and posters around.

Karts would need one of the other systems (Hutchens sp?). Not sure how they would work without the torso being restrained.
There again there is the S. African device for bikers which might be a possibility. Have yet to see much comment or wide approval for this though. (Forgotten the name. ) Jim |

That's the one. I have bumped this thread because the Leatt-Brace people had a stand at the Autosport show. Talking to the chap, it seems that they are looking for a UK (EU?) distributor. (Or was it manufacturer?)
Does not yet have FIA "approval" but passes the US standard for head restraints and has achieved SFI 38.1 certification. Did anyone else have a look at this? Regards Jim |

Certainly did. Was quite impressed actually, and even more so when I found out the price they were expecting to sell at. Shame I already bought my HANS :-(

As I understand it the Leatt Brace does not require any posts fitted to the helmet so that means my existing (currently three years old) helmet would be suitable.
What sort of prices were you quoted D Type? |

You're correct that they don't need any special posts fitting. The chap at Autosport lifted up a pair of loops when he was talking about that, but didn't actually show me how they fitted. Anyway, he said they weren't available here yet, but they were hoping to organise a distributor soon and were expecting end user price to be in the region of £300-£350. That puts them firmly in the "half the price of a HANS" range and would, I think, make it a serious option.
