Hinch didn't mention that in his tweets, but reading the NH presser your understanding appears to be correct. Would be nice if James or NH would find the sponsorship to have him in the car for the other two events but I won't hold my breath.

It'd be nice if he could get extra funding for those two races, but to be honest, when considering how long he's been knocking on the door waiting for someone to answer, I'll bet he's not bothered in the slightest about missing just those two.

Halfway there - Hinch will be in Brazil

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/globe...1980097/print/

The good news is that Hinchcliffe has apparently attracted additional sponsorship that will see him compete in the May 1 street race in Sao Paulo, Brazil. The 24-year-old’s deal with backer Eric Sprott, chairman of Sprott Asset Management, included only the North American stops on the IndyCar calendar and left the Canadian looking for more support to drive in the two fly-away races in Brazil and the mid-September stop in Motegi, Japan.

Great news for a good young driver in Indycar.
I also quite enjoyed his comments about Viso after the accident

Starting at Long Beach, qualifying segment 1 groups on road/street courses will be decided on even/odd practice times. The driver with the fastest time will pick which group starts first. That's Barnhard taking good decisions.

Anyone hearing any thing about Buddy Rice at least for Indianapolis? I would hate to see such a recent Indy winner without a ride.

Personally, I don't want old Buddies back. I prefer the grid as it is, with more young drivers.

Not a word...He hasn't raced in the 500 since 2008, his last year with Dreier & Reinbold, and last year he was driving in Grand Am.

Not sure what he is doing now.

He is on no one's radar at this time as far as I've heard here in Indy.

Well, Jay Penske of Dragon Racing mentioned his name in connection with a possible Indy 500 drive in the press coverage of his team's return.
I'd sure enough like to see Buddy Rice back in IndyCar.

Now that is something! It's just the right place for making a comeback, too, with all the testing that goes on in the Month Of May (TM). And with oval specialists Panther Racing, Buddy Rice should be in good shape for the race.

I'd suggest you won't see China Racing take part now that Tung has signed for Dragon. It's (to the best of my knowledge) not a real team, and was always going to have other people behind the scenes. My guess is that the money men behind Tung put the entry in to keep their options open, and with another deal tied up there's little reason to try and do something with CR.

In today's Indy Star (see the story about NASCAR tire tests), at the bottom of the article, it covers Rookie Orientation for next week and lists the senven confirmed drivers.

It says that there was not confirmation as to whether Pagenaud (Dragon) or Ricardo Teixeira (China/Beck) would be at the test session.

So...China Racing may have surfaced after all.

Teixeira could take a Rookie Test after next Thursday, but the series and the IMS would have to allow for it.

If this is going to surface, we'll know in a week.

The guy's record seems to stink. Only one win (at Formula 3) and in GP2 and other series, he never scored a point and in a couple of races didn't even qualify.

Beck is cashing a check to try for it. I don't think this guy has a chance of making the top 33.

There also are rumors that one of the Laziers might be in a car and that Summerton thinks he can make something happen for the 500.

We'll find out soon enough.

At least he was picked up as a Team Lotus test driver for this year

He was picked up by Lotus as he brings a big check, and all they have to give in return is a couple of testing runs. Teixeira is as bad as Milka Duno.

I think teixeira is the son of the guy that ran A1GP into the ground with $500 million in debts.

Yes indeed! It's great that young drivers get seats.

Also, Ed Carpenter will be racing for Fisher at Milwaukee in addition to the other US ovals, Mid-Ohio, Sears Point and Baltimore.

It's good to see Sarah Fisher Racing adding another event to their schedule. To be honest, I haven't been a fan of Ed Carpenter since last year, when his performances in the Panther car were quite stunning. I hope he can help Sarah Fisher Racing get further towards the lead pack.

I posted it in both places to be safe.

We're going to have to figure out the names of various threads covering the Indy 500, because otherwise, that "indy 500" thread is going to get HUGE by the end of the month.

I'll look at it and see if it is mostly driver stuff or whatever.

I suggest we do a "Qualifying" Thread and a "Race" Thread, but I'm open to reconsidering that and just keeping the one we have now.

Nope, no connection. Tim, what win? I don't think he's ever won in anything? He was on the National class podium in British F3 once or twice but that was just a handful of cars. If he bought his way into the F1 test seat? Boy, did he ever. Not THE worst driver to race in GP2 though - Kevin Chen and Plamen Kravel were even worse.
