I really can't wait to see those Manthey's! It's a really agressive looking car with the wing that far back on it's tail. Lovely.
Wouldn't surprise me if they took the overall win... |

this one can't get an overall win, as it's a GT2 car. neither would the VLN Manthey car since: - it's a BiTurbo, and FIA-GT regulations makes Turbo cars completely uncompetitive - they crashed it heavily at the Nordschleife, I heard it was totaled |

I'd be surprised in a GT2 would get a shot, too many last generation cars (Aston, Maserati, C6R...)

If it is extremely wet the BMW could win because it has ABS and TC

(maybe it crashed during an event after that win?) Also the car they won with, was based on a 997... |

Whilst I agree that a overall win for a GT2 car is unlikely it is not beyond the bounds of possibilty. IMO. Remember a GT2 car stops roughly once every 90 minutes and a GT1 car about once every hour. A pitstop at Spa takes more or less 1 lap, so yeah whilst the GT2 cars are a little slower but effectivly every 3 hours the GT2 cars gain 1 lap back. The GT2 cars also tend to be more reliable than the GT1 cars for some reason.
GT2 cars normally finish inside the top 8, last year the lead GT2 car finished 7th overall and in 2004 the lead NGT car was 3rd overall. I wont be too suprised if a GT2 or G2 class car wins this years Spa 24hrs. The 2 Scuderia Ecosse cars and the 2 Manthey Porsches and the 2 AF Corse cars and perhaps the #75 Ebimotors car all are capable of winning overall. IMO. |

Just read Manthey is indeed entering a totally new 997 GT3 RSR for the Spa race. Saw some pics too. Very nice looking set of exhausts!

Little update, quite a couple of strong lineups. The lineup on the PSI C6R is quite impressive as well, a outsider?

DSC are reporting that the Duller BMW Z4 has withdrawn because of engine problems in testing. The car will now make its debut at Zolder for the Belcar 24hrs.
Also disappearing is the #106 Verbist Porsche 996 GT3-RS |

Fuel and tyres (all four) for a normal FIA GT stop is around 45-50 seconds. That includes the drivers changing at the same time. The pitlane entry doesn't take over a minute, even at Spa. But I see your point on the GT2 cars running for longer. The only thing that will give a GT2 car a chance at outright victory will be constant rain and a stellar driver line-up. Ortelli reckoned at Le Mans if it was wet a GT1 car could have a chance at overall honours, so a GT2 win at Spa is definately on th cards, weather permitting. |

IMO a G2 or GT2 car has a realistic chance of winning the Spa 24hrs overall, of course they wont be starting as favourites, everyone knows that, but a top GT2 or G2 class car does have a decent chance. IMO. |

GT2 cars often finish in the top 3 overall in the Spa 24hrs, and as we all know sometimes even end up winning the race, albeit with very bad weather conditions. As we all know at Spa it is almost certain to rain over a 24 hour period, how much rain however is of course in the lap of the gods. If there was say 4 or 5hrs of rain over the 24hrs that would help the GT2 cars signifcantly as they are faster than a lot of the GT1 machinery in wet conditions.
Still, I guess we will just have to wait and see what happens. |

Duller will field a BMW M3 GTR in cooperation with RaceAlliance. It's the car that ran in the Dubai 24h and it'll run on Michelin with Wendlinger/Peter/Bouchut/Lechner, while the 996 Porsche is left at home due to a bemoaned lack of support from Porsche.

Ah, OK. Must have gotten that wrong reading gt-eins.de. The article made no mention of the DBR9.
What class will the BMW run? G2? |

Looking ahead to Players TV coverage for the Spa 24hrs by my calculations we should be getting 5hrs 15 minutes of live coverage. Thats pretty good IMO, yes it could be better but its better than nothing.

Sorry if there is a trackside post about Spa but I couldn't find it.
I have made a late call to get out there on the ferry on Friday night. Can anyone give me some info as this will be my first visit to Spa..... 1/ Can we sleep somewhere in the car??? (Cant be bothered to pitch up) 2/ Can you pay on the door?? 3/ What is the traffic like to get back to Calais?? There are ferries about 11pm back to Blighty on Sunday night. Will that leave enough time?? Thanks people. I would be grateful for any other do's or dont's for Spa.... |
