Great mix of action on Saturday and from what I could find from yesterday.
So sorry to see Pete's lovely old car, the Rover get punted into the tyres. Brabs had it going pretty well. I suspect that's not going to be at the Donington Historic meeting now. Don't get how the Escort driver could hit it so hard just coming out of the chicane. Brabs must have slowed dramatically and/or Escort driver got caught out? The larger capacity V8s might need some pegging back for next year! Fantastic Graham Hill Trophy race, the bikes and the big bangers also put on a great show. I don't know what happened to cause the red flag in the FN trophy but hope all are ok. |

It's a very tricky pit entry. You exit the chicane and keep right but knowing where to slow is almost an art. You have to leave it late. Also relying on indicators is perhaps not the best, better to wave the hand out of the window before the chicane. The driver in the FN race was airlifted to hospital.
Perhaps the Rover could be the unluckiest Goodwood car ever. |

I've only seen the instagram post fron GRRC and it basically says the driver was assessed at the circuit then airlifted to hospital. Fingers are crossed.

Big relief, I was only a few yards away with 2 friends when the accident happened and I'm afraid we all feared the worst. Sincerely hope he makes a full recovery, horrible to witness.

Good news that driver is recovering.
A very enjoyable first visit to Goodwood for me. Thankfully, dry all weekend too. Brilliant racing and wonderful opportunity to view cars in pits and classics parked trackside. Photos attached: |

I was surprised to hear Rowan Atkinson say he'd never been on the podium before, after his third place in the Sopwith Cup.

Nice pics, thanks Malcolm. The 530 and the Beetle were really fast and I did enjoy to watch Rob Huff dancing with his E Type all way round. What a driver he is.

Same with others too. The 1:25 by the winning Camaro was "surprising" and it seems the only one to improve its times since two years ago. My old Rover did 1:29 which it did back in the 72MM so, remains unchanged. It's 25BHP down on the other Rovers because it doesn't have fuel injection.
Was amazed to see how well the Nash Metropolitan ran in the Sopwith Cup. |

The Nash Metropolitan was absurdly quick, I remember the tale of Lewis-Evans having to drive down to the '57 GP in Pescara in one to take his place in a Vanwall alongside Stirling. Tony Brooks and his fiancee joined Roy Salvadori in a Hillman Minx that he was road testing for car magazine and Jack Brabham drove the transporter to the race and got a lift back in the Hillman. Such tales are legendary in themselves. The mode of transport employed in those days compared with the prima donna treatment today is unbelievable. Last edited by justracing; 12 Apr 2022 at 18:13. |
