Well, it is interesting to a point. But more admirable than exciting, I would say.

Come on chaps! Those pit stops were incredibly gripping, I leapt out of my seat every time someone swept, sorry trundled. in to their berth and all of those funny men in space outfits pulled rubbish out of the side pods!
The tension was enormous! would the nozzle get stuck? Would the wheel stick on? How many spacemen would get knocked over? And would the lollipop man hit the driver on the head as he drove off?
The great advantage of this viewing is that you can mow the lawn for about twenty minutes before the first stops, and shut the Missus up.
Boring? Never!

lmao Yeh I found that funny, too. I mean i'm a big F1 fan, but F1 can have its share of extremely dull races/moments. You know it's bad when the usually enthusiastic (by 'enthusiastic' I mean enthusiastic to get the sport over as being exciting 24/7) commentators are admitting it was 'dull'. I was pretty out of it for the first half of the race and was fooled into thinking it was really exciting... Then my buzz wore off.

It'd be nice to see some changes in F1. What precisely, is difficult to nail.

Well guys, I was there and yeah, it was a tad boring.

I did see three or four passes down the field, notably one of Nick Heidfeld around the outside of turn 1 on Barrichello (IIRC).

I think Montmeló could do with a tighter turn one. There is room to make that, and I'd prefer changing that rather than the last turn, which seems to be quite enjoyable for the drivers as a fast 250, 5th gear corner.

However, while the GP2 Sunday race was largely processional, the Saturday one was very entertaining. You've got to note the GP2 cars have more mechanical grip than F1 cars... (through slick tyres and a rear wing which has one less element than last year).

In my view you are correct to a point, however the F1 cars from 1991 and 1992 could pass quite easily down into turn 1.

Fast corners shouldn't mean an impossibility to follow and pass (as it is now), rather fast corners should be there to make it "tricky".

In its current guise the F1 car / track combination make passing at Barcelona nigh on impossible. However if you made F1 cars more like the cars of the early 90's then passing should be tough, but not impossible like it is today.

3) Schuey overtakes Fisi... in the pits.

Has anyone taped the race ? Please send me a copy of it: I'm out of sleeping pills...

Not that I'm jealous or anything ;-)

OK, so Barcelona was boring, but do you think all the races pre-1998 were incredibly exciting with lots of passing? No.

If there wasn't a boring race from time to time we'd stop appreciating the exciting ones!

Trouble is that there are quite a few potential bore fests still to come (Hungary,France etc). And they took the best one away (Belgium).

Time for a new thread I suggest.

What was the most boring race ever?

This should run and run.

I'll nominate Spain 2006 just to kick things off.

Oh! NO! Alonso Zig Zagged and Kimi waved, scrap my last suggestion. I'll reconsider my choice.

Back i 1961 there was the ..............zzzzzzz.

Indy 2005 would most likely be the winner for that one. I am uncertain whether it can be defeated.

Hungary 2004 would have to be a contender also. Mind you, it did have an exquisite display of expert banana peeling.

No of course not, however the frequency at which boring races occur now has increased dramatically.

I still have Melbourne 1997 on tape and to be honest, it was so boring, not a single pass, the only moment of excitement was when Frentzen's brakes failed at turn 1.

However I have other races like Suzuka 1996 which was fantastic, Jacques Villeneuve made 3 excellent passes from miles back into the Casino Triangle, brakes locked up, fantastic.

I also have lots of footage from 1991 and 1990 and the overall quality of racing was much higher than now.
