Winnie, I’ve never heard that Martin drove a 1.7 engine in one of his RS200s. Already at the 1986 GBGP at Brands Hatch Martin was the only RS200 driver to use the new 2137cc E2 engine developed for Ford by Brian Hart. If there was talks about a big and a small engine, it was related to the new (from 1988 on 1.7, before it was 1.4) turbo factor. Up to 2058cc (aka 2.1l engine) the car was eligible for the 3.5l weight rule, with the 2.3l engine it had to follow the weight rule for 4.0l. For Matti Alamäki’s Pug the original 205 E2 1775cc engine (3.5l) therefore was reduced to 1760cc (3.0l) before the 1988 ERC.

I remember all this from way back when, and I think it is also why Will used a 2.3 motor in teh Metro rather than a 2.8 like Rasmushaugen maybe, but even then it would have been very heavy compared to teh opposition.
The only guys I know who ran 1.8 motors where Rolf Nilsson, I think Gary Baker for a bit before he went much better with a Minty motor and Graham Hathaway. Most ran 2.1, I think Renny may have even been tuned by Hart himself? Pat used Godfrey motors I'm sure, but I stand to be corrected. I remember also that the engine tuner battle was in Div2 with Drury, Hoyle and Karlssons really upping the ante in teh RS500's. Every eyar more power!! superb |

Yep Chunder, Rolf "Myggan" Nilsson was the only one in the ERC to continue with the original 1803cc RS200 engine – and was, funny enough, as 5th overall the best placed of the nine RS200 campaigners in the 1987 ERC… BTW, the late Trevor Hopkins’ RS200 had also a 1.8l unit in 1987 and 1988.
And before I forget, German Rainer Bley, a retired Zakspeed engineer, did some of Martin’s engines. |

I remember Hoppy in teh red car using a 1.8, think he went to a 2.1 later on. Rumour has it that the car might still be somewhere at Haynes, though not sure about that one!! Maybe ask Bob Gooding??
Was sure someone European did Martins engines. Only realised after watching that superb new YouTube clip that Welch drove a Zakker Mk2 aswell, am presuming that was Martins old car? And didnt Gunnar K use that aswell later on?? Also while talking of Gunnar, am sure he had an Xtrac too! Talking of Rolf, thinki he was driving an Elan in historic racing, how do I know?? Coz on the side of teh car it says "Myggan" |

"Myggan" is Swedish for mosquito. I was told that Rolf in his childhood was tiny and, therefore, nicknamed "Myggan" by his friends at Tomelilla. IIRC Bengt-Göran Grenander, the Swedish FIA ORC man who is also from Tomelilla, told me that Rolf is doing historic racing nowadays. |

I spoke to a guy in Norway a couple of years ago who had bought the engine from kjetils car and installed in a Mk1 escort! All 520bhp of it
Incidentally, In Poland just just before he retired I had the pleasure (or not as it was well below freezing!) of sleeping in the back of Martin Schanche's bus. over breakfast he told me he had only just sold the last of the RS200's he had. some 9 years after he couldnt use it I also heard Pekka still has his car under a sheet in his workshop |

Have a look here http://www.rs200.org/ and click on Chassis Number 98 in the frame at the right… BTW, I think that Chassis Number 12 was Martin’s original RS200. IIRC the second one was a 'Bitsa'. |

Interesting bit in the for sale section. Mark Rennisons car is in Califonia, up for £100.000, says Mark sold car in 1994 to King Hussein for alot of money.

Is it still in DSRM spec or been rebodied into a rallycar. As Someone earlier said I think many of the rallyx cars are bitza cars.
People with an original will want to seel with paperwork etc, rallycross cars on their own are worth half as much I would think! Unless there suddenyl is a boom in collecting them George!! |

Concerning the RS200 AFAIR I once read somewhere that there are only four or five cars known to be bitsas.

Hey folks, you discussed a lot about RS200 and 6R4's but whats about the RS500 from Hansen and Skogstad? Saw the Hansen RS500 for sale at rallycross.de, the Owner is/was Peltokangas Eemeli. The same who tried to sale the Alamäki 911 4x4 Bi-Turbo.
And what happened to the Audi S1#s which were used in RX, especially the ones that were heavily crashed, (Herbert Breiteneder & Bert Brodin). Heard that Breiteneder bought a new one after crashing his first S1 & and the one from Brodin was totally destroyed in the crash with Rustad. Did he rebuild it? Does anyone know??? And what happened to the Olle Arnesson car?? |

Never heard that "Breiti" bought a second S1. Would surprise me for some reasons, anyway. However, there is something in the back of my ol’ brain connecting Austrian Rally ace Franz Wittmann Senior with the S1 of Breiteneder.

Who drove an Audi Sport quattro or a S1 in RX?
I remember: Olle Arnesson Anders Carlsson Herbert Breiteneder Dimi Mavropoulos Sven Lestander Bertil Persson Bert Brodin I know that the cars of Arnesson and Carlsson (IIRC it was actually owned by E.G. Larssons Bil AB) have been used once (or even twice?) for Michèle Mouton’s 'Race of Champions'. I would not be surprised if Olle has his one still in possession… I seem to remember that Brodin’s car was the ex-Lestander S1… Anyone forgotten? |
